COBRA HELICOPTER T-AH1F
That picture was taken from my window here at Lockheed. We were going to buy it and the owner flew it up for us to look at. It didn't meet our engineering needs since the original "F" model wiring was missing. We decided not to purchase it.
Here's a picture of me next to that aircraft.

Actually, I happen to see it in the air about two weeks ago and could not figure out what the hell it was. Sounded like a turbo prop but looked like a stang....? Now it all makes sense Tell you what, that thing hauls butt! Would love to get a chance to wring it out, what a blast.
I did cop a ride in "Crazy Horse" a few years ago, I'm friends with Gene Soucy and he conviced Lee to take me for a ride after the airshow here in Daytona. One of the most exciting rides of my life, something i'll never forget.

You bye it and I'll fly it. I'm only 8 Months out of currency. Just need an hour with an IP . I read the article I find it hard to believe they let you get type rated with five hours. The Army Course at the WAATS was 6 weeks and 48 Hours of time not including the FWS. Just hope they instruct them on pitch cone coupling, transient torque, and all the lovely hidden torque associated with that rotor system, can you say hard left turn and over torque, hard right turn and over speed .
BTW its missing the improved intake system of an F model it looks more like an ECAS, and you never mount the rocket tube on a tow mount.
Later.

Things are looking good with the new site, I'll call and fill you in next week on whats new. Any idea who owns that turbo mustang? How bout you and i go halves on it , looks like it will just about fit in your trailer .

Todd,
The guy who owns the Stewart S-51D his name is Robert Wahl, i have his phone number if you want it to take it for a flight. The asking price is $395,000 not bad considering the Kit sells for about $250,000 + building costs, avionics needed etc etc....
The S-51D can climb out between 4000 and 5000 FPM and cruise around 300MPH. Service ceiling is 25000ft. The S-51D is aerobatic with a 9+ 6- G Ultimate load rating.

Working it tonite
Todd:
I'm working on the glider tonite. I've got the motor retract & power sequence worked out. Ran the elevator cable last night.
Maybe not this weekend, but possible next weekend.
Just when I though I had the Tucano all worked out, the motor's funky on me again. Probably need to clean the carb after collapsing the nose gear on a pile of horse crap (literally). It hadn't locked down. You should see the lomcevak on this thing though.
BTW - I'd take a turbine Legend over the S-51, it's a full size airplane with similar performance on the same engine and a bit less than $400k. I'm going to Oshkosh in a couple of weeks to scout for a possible project and I won't even be looking at this type of plane. I gotta be able to haul some trash. I'll be looking at the Van's 4 seat RV-11(?), the new one Phil's working on( Four Winds?) and some others.
