Aeronaut Rafale and Wren 44?
Does anyone have any experience with the Aeronaut Rafale? It is designed for EDF, but looks like a fantastic fit for the Wren 44. (www.aero-naut.com) It seems that there might be a few examples of this plane out there (i.e. different fuse construction); the one I gave the link to appears to be set up for retracts. Any info would be great.
Thanks

I have the "old" one without the retracts.
I dont think it is suitable for turbine use without modificaton...at least :-)
Everything can be done ofcourse.
I have taken some pictures of mine.....

SJN, thank you for the information and pictures. When you say the airframe is not suitable for turbine, are you thinking it won't stand up to the speed/G? The turbine seems like it would be lighter than the electric version with all those batteries. Have you flown yours yet? If so, how was it?
Thanks again

I don`t know......it just seems fragile....... But so does a Kangaroo
In its stock form, the wings are just glued to the side of the fuselage, and re-infoced with a strip of glass. This doesn`t seem strong to me, but with all the elctric stuff in it weighing about 4 kg`s , it aparently holds up fine....just look at ththe video. [8D]
But I think the Turbine would make it fly faster though, and straining the airframe more than the EDF version.
You have probably noticed the webra 32 in the rear end of my plane......well, Im not finished yet....
Buy one, and tell us how it goes

Fragile? That makes sense. I thought the same thing about the first Byron F-16 I saw I imagine the turbine will be able to keep the energy up better than the electric, so that may be a bad idea. The pusher is a good idea. I'm trying to think of smaller, turbine-suitable, models. My EuroSport is proving to be a pain to haul and assemble! I like the Savex L-39, but I'm trying to understand the other options. Something else I've thought about is the 45" Bob-E-Cat with the Wren MW44 or SImjet 700...thoughts?
The video of the electric flying is really impressive! That thing really goes.
Thanks again

The single version is due to be released sometime in the next year. It will have inlets for a single 125mm fan installation. The single fan will make retract installation possible, as it is with doal smaller fans the retracts won't fit unless you reshape the inlets and do some custom twist-n-turn mains.

Chris, good thoughts about the brakes...I was thinking the Rafale, which has the gear retract into the fuse, would be a good option. As far as the Bob-E-Cat goes, it seems to have thicker wings. On the L-39 posting, they mention a set of slimline brakes that are compatible with Robart wheels. Thoughts?

You are probably right about the Bob-E having thicker wings - slightly thicker, I douby it is THICK
Next week is Mid America in Michigan, big E-event. I think a friend with a Bob-E cat will be there, I'll look at his wheel wells and see how much space is there. As far as Robart compatible brakes go those would be way too thick for the Bandito. Of course you do what you gotta do, if they need to poke out the bottom of the wing you'd have to just live with it. A set of small Trim or BVM wheels would just about fit in the wells with the axle block below the bottom surface - the legs retract outwards BTW. The carbon tube spar is surrounded by ply plates which go a little further out and surround the retract mechanism then the strut and wells are outboard further still.

There was a thread on the MW 44 being installed in a El Bandito ,haven't seen any flight test reports . IMO besides the thin wing, need for brakes( USA),another problem would be fuel cells. and don't forget they where designed for bungee launch.I would go with either the L 39,or go with the airworld me262 which I know flies well with the MW44,s

Joe, good points, all of them. The AirWorld ME-262...yes, I agree wholeheartedly...now, can you try to convince my girlfriend that I need it too? Somehow I don't think she'll see the logic of a close to $8K model (i.e. toy) airplane. She says I have too many toys and that I can play with my fullscale instead Women, they always miss the bigger picture! Just kidding, she's quite supportive, but she still questions the sanity of it all.
