The guy that posted above might know a little about the bird, but if you want the true guru contact this guy:

I'm getting close on mine also. finished the paint yesterday. Should have everything in next week.
Mine will fly with a P-70, and tailerons.
Good Luck!

Simjet 1200 engine and the standard aileron with flap configuration... no tailerons.
ORIGINAL: YellowAircraft
Hi,
Cool! What engine? What kind of wing config. do you have?

Sweet!
If you're looking for advice, here's mine:
Make DAMN sure you have gear legs that are absolutely slop-free in the gear units. Any amount of play [due to shallow flat-spots or dents caused by overtightening the set-screw] will be amplified at the wheel by the articulation of the lower legs. This will translate into a wing-tip dance on your takeoff roll. Much of what people attribute to an oversensitive nose wheel is really the main gear castoring a little. Here's a tip for securing them: Take the set-screw out of the gear block and use the flat top side of a dremel grinding disc to flatten the tip of the set screw. If the part of the screw that touches your landing gear wire is flat instead of bullet-shaped, it will hold against the flat-spot of the wire with less likelihood to develop slop (by denting the wire).
Make sure that you have ample toe-in also. I recommend 4 degrees on each main. If you have expo on your transmitter, program it in on the steering. It helps.
Use 10 to 15 degrees of flaps for takeoff. This will help the plane to have a smooth rotation. I like to use 45 degrees for landings.
It's a sweet-flying bird on T-power. Enjoy!

I have had two with no luck []. Just make sure to raise the nose to give it positive wing degree. When dead stick try to land immediately, it will glide like a rock.
The best test Pilot in south Florida is (Robbie Lynn). After a Rocky test flight he had to take his pressure pills with two glasses of water and he tells me no more test flights on that model.
good luck.

Well,
Robbie Lynch is an awesome pilot, but his bad experience doesn't knock too much of a dent in that airplane's reputation. Common sense dictates that there are MANY vairables and possibilites for what might have caused a bad flight with the particular airplane he flew. I'm not sure what happened with your two, but all a person has to do is watch the scores of flights of this bird on videos from the jet meets of the 90's to see how it flies.
The nose-high remedy isn't a bad idea, but if one doesn't want to do that, one simply needs to use the flaps on takeoff. I've had 5 of these jets, and every one of them sat 0 degrees level.

The flaps on takeoff will help for a smooth rotation, without the flaps, when she breaks she breaks hard off the ground. I have flown mine with a Artes Bee 12lbs thrust and flys well. A friend of mine has a P70 in his and his flies better, but much shorter flight times. All in all a very nice plane and fun to fly.

Yes about the C/G. I had the same question. I have the D/F version I will be maidening in less than a week.
The manual says 12" from the TE. I have also heard 12.5". Any thoughts from those who have been there and done that would be greatly appreciated.
BTW thank you Shuan for all of your insight. It really helps to have someone with experience give you a word or two in the right direction. Things like the landing gear issue you talked about could make the difference between going home with a sucessful flight or going home with a jet to repair.
Thanks!

I set the CG at 12.5". I found it flew very nicely there. Be very careful with moving the CG back beyond the recommended point. It will develop nasty habits easily even when a little tail heavy.

RE: Y/A F-18 Single First flight
I was planning on building the newer y/a F-18 single that has the fiberglass/carbon fiber/pre-primed fuse this winter that I picked up from Shaun a few months ago.
Does anyone have a video of a F-18 single turbine they could post or email to me?
Thanks,
Steven T.
