Default F-16 flap pictures

I am also in search of some pictures of the leading edge of the F-16 flap.

Thanks

I should say it differently, I am looking for the leading edge of the rear flaps, not the leading edge slats.

Hi Kenny,

The lending edge on a F-16 is a flap because it is hinged. Hope this helps.

I am trying to find out how much bevel, or radius is on the hinged end of the flaperon.

Sorry I do not know much about F-16s (except for the FC computers on the full scale ones) but this is how most scale hinges work

The flaperon LE radius should be 1/2 the width of the TE at any given point.

If the TE thickness varies, then so will the radius of the flaperon LE.

Thanks Matt,

So is there a bevel or a radius on the F-16? I have heard both.

Kenny,

I will go out to the production floor tomorrow and look at the flap before it is hinged, and I will also look at the flap itself.

I've never paid attention to it before. I don't think it is a radius though, because the TE is not.

Nick has the pics of the Leading edge flaps. They are not beveled at all, just covered with panels. As for the trailing edge flaperon, it does have a full radius on the leading edge. Also there are panels which cover this radius to seal the hinge line.

Oh and i almost forgot, the leading edge flaps are angled UP 2 degrees to the airfoil of the wing. I dont know if you can see that in the pix. The leading edge flap has knuckle hinges in four locations down the wing. The knuckle hinges have a round face, and then flap seals cover the gap. Just like the models almost. On one pic the flap is level, and you can see a plate on the bottom, that means the Command Servo has been removed and the plate is holding the flap up.

One note about the 2 deg up LE flap position, It is activated by weight on wheels, it helps to kill lift on touch down. During normal flight the LEF is controlled in relation to the AOA.

Nick,
"NEVER ARGUE WITH AN M-16, Even if the guy holding it is an idiot!", ESPECIALLY if the guy holding the M-16 is an idiot, they're the most dangerous kind of AP!
Seems like not much has changed since I was in 35 yrs ago!

Kenny,

For the purposes of the Y/A F-16, you'd probably just be best off doing what we talked about at length with the leading edge of the flaperon. If you want to radius it, that's ok, but remember that the thickness at the tip is very thin. Also, where there's a radius, there's a gap-cover or a corresponding concave radius on the wing to make it pretty. If you use the hardware that came with it, it favors a very slight bevel. That way, everything matches up to what it comes with, plus, the hingeline will look like a panel line.

Why muck it up and make it more difficult at the same time? Just my $.02...

P.S. Please call me. I'd love some good news on the F-16 balance...

Hi Kenny,

I have done the radius technique down to a 1/8 inch radius (or .25 inch thick at the surface LE, on the elevators of a bandit) and that is WITH the cover over it.
