Default JetJoe engines

I was talking to a few flying buddies of mine on the weekend that went to a jet meet last weekend. They said that they had been tipped off about a guy in the far east producing MW54 kits at a very competitive price. Does anyone have any idea where I can get one. By competitive I mean the price was sub £600 for the full kit including the fadec, pump, ecu etc....

Anyone that is interested in the JetJoe turbine needs to read the complete discussion on RCGroups that Patrick B posted the link to.

JetJoe may be a viable turbine manufacturer some day, but they have a long way to go.

Is it just my failing eye sight, but in pic 3 it appears the engines running with no fuel in the line, no air getting into the tank vent and what looks like no battery to run the pump or receiver ?

The engine was *NOT* running at the time of that picture, just windmilling in the wind. You are correct, there were no batterys either.

Did you have to modify anything or is it "stock" jet joe? Are you planning to take it to 160,000 rpm?

We have a few cycles on the engine now. FULL STOCK as recieved from Jet Joe. We are working very close with Joe to fix anything that may be wrong in the short term and long term. We do plan to run it at the max rpm but not for a few runs. Anything that is fixed or changed will be annoucned once we have everything done but untill then im not going that deep. As you can see we are running the Fadec Semi-Auto Unit with the Stock Jet Joe pump and Stock Jet Joe Hand Starter.

Should the preload be so light that the jj-1200 can windmill in a light wind, or was that a strong wind? If so i think i have too much preload on my jj shaft because it takes me a quite a bit of air force to get it to windmill, it does however sping freely when i spin it with my fingers, so i dont know. thankyou in advance for any information!

I do not have a preload. Once the oil gets to the bearings after a few runs the bearings get super smooth.

The oil should get to the bearings immediately, not after a few runs. If the engine gets up past where you are currently running it rpm wise, you are going to wish you had preload.... there is a reason every turbine manufacturer preloads the bearings.

so, does my preload conditions sound about right to you guys or does it seem like i have a bit too much? also Is there any way to gauge it because it is a difficult question to answer from the limited information i have given you. thanks

That is a misuderstanding on your part, and a mistype on skymacs part, he means the bearings are super smooth after all the runs, Yes they were smooth before the first run but smoother after the first run as they were lubricated. Russ

JRCheliman -preload is to be set at 10 lbs or 4.5 kg on an engine of this type.

Hey,

Just got back from our local field and got to see Skymacs Jet Joe run.
Although they were getting all the settings fine tuned for idle and midrange
it was still super impressive. Most of the running was done at night and it
looked to be burning very evenly in the back. Just wanted to step in here
and say that they are working very hard to get this product to be viable in
the future, so far its looking good but time will tell.

Thanks,

Joe

Here are some pictures as promised, still having a high EGT than we want but we are working it down in the right direction, great improvement from the last runs. Max RPM was is the range of 90K tonight, it is also still burning very evenly even though its hard to tell in the picture.

680 C at just above idle setting...you best work a "bit more closely" with "Joe" to get the temps down to a tollerable level IMO. Especially before you continue to sing praises of the engine.

Just note I am not bashing it, but I cannot understand someone else supporting/promoting with a "look and see... it runs" attitude when there are obvious deficient areas in the design. IMO no one should be pushing this thing UNTILL it is running 100% as it is supposed to be.

What other company gets potential distributers and customers to do their R&D work, and try and sell/promote engines that are not yet ready to sell to the general public?
