Skymaster Blue Angels F-18 - Almost Ready!
Almost finished with my Skymaster F-18 ... I made some minor enhancements: Vinyl decals scanned from the Skymaster originals, PPG 2021 clear coat, Tam's exhuast pipe and nozzles, smoke system, JetCat GPS, etc. Now all I have to do is mount the gear doors and put all of the equipment back in it! Probably won't get a chance to fly it until Spring here in Northern Ohio though....

Hi Nick
Looks great! I'll bet you can't wait to fly it. If you need any pictures of a door installation let me know. We have 3 out here with gear doors now.
Tom how long is the takeoff run on the grass? We don't have a nice grass field here to fly off of, nice to hear that it performs off of grass.

Are there any mods or suggestion on CG and control throw settings that deviate from the instruction manual? Any tips/cautions? I will be flying one very soon.
Thanks

Duke:
Our field is quite smooth grass, 750 ft long.....takes Brian less than 1/2 field to lift off.......and that's letting it run till it lifts off with minimal elevator.....I would say you definitely could get it off in about 275-300 ft without risking a stall-snap on decent grass with a P-120....using a fairly high AOA approach, he uses up about the same distance while landing....

Nick,
You have done wonderful job dressing that bird for the big party, I always knew you were the man.
Where are you going to let that baby rip from this spring? I hope I get an invite to that party we could have a great time.
Slow roll on takeoff????
William

Thanks for all the kind words.
Ian: I am using JR 8611's on the Elevators, JR 3421's on the Ailerons, Hitec 5945's on the Flaps, Hitec 5125's on the Rudders. Yes, I have a working speed brake, but it took a little work to get the air cylinder angle correct.
William: I'll let you know where we'll be on maiden flight day (whenever the weather cooperates).

Hi Nick
Are you planning to install all gear doors???. What engine are you planning to use??
I'm close to completion also . I have install all gear doors and speed brake. I wish i never install the gear doors too much work to get it right would be flying already .

Yes, planning on all gear doors. I have all the time in the world (until the weather breaks) to work on them (I don't live in sunny Florida). I'm putting a new, "uprated 125K RPM" P-120 in it.

Hey Nick
I think if we both show up we would have our own Solo team.
Just don't make her heavy I don't like it when it has a high wing loading. I would leave out the smoke.
Take a look..................................

I thought you would get a kick out of that.................................
I saw one like yours a Lake Wales Jet meet man she was a beauty. Ali from Al's hobbies in the UK flew one last year at Florida Jets that had to be one of the best demos of an aircraft I have seen. What are you going to power her with?

Nick,
Well done! Your plane looks great! I hope I’ll be able to see the plane in the air soon. I’m sure you will like the plane more, once you’ve flown it. If your winter is too long to wait, you can always bring it here to Hawaii. You’ll be able to fly it all year round. Keep up the great work!

Nick,
Looks great! Looks like your persistence with the decals paid off. You can count me in to be there for the maiden flight. Call me if you are going to have the bird at the barn next week.
