Thanks Jeff, appreciate the encouragement. Hand is healing well so little by little, I am starting back to work on my TBF Avenger and the 54 at the same time. Certainly pictures will be posted. Check back in this thread and you will see another builder also did the anhedral stab but only provided a picture with little information. Wish I could contact him for flight characteristics. By the way, that picture of your 54 looks great. Hey guys, if you find time, would like to see equipment and radio installations in the 54. Still a rookie with jets. Many thanks. Chic

Quick Question: has anyone installed and used the electric Robart retract setup yet?

I have been thinking about those retracts with my current Pro-Link struts and electric braking...yes, no more air compressor.

Hope I made a wise choice when I ordered the Robart electric retracts when I ordered my 54. Would like to hear others experience with them. Thanks Chic

I am sure they are the right choice and am curious what others think.

I see that you are in Alexandria. I am in Laurel MD and just flew my Reaction at the Free State Modelers club off of 200 and I-95. Come up sometime to see it fly. This week was my first time to fly the Reaction since we moved here last Spring and the field is very nice.

Also, I will have hardware pics tomorrow for you to refer to.

DRS - Welcome to the area. I fly at PGRC, in Bowie. I have visited Free State once. Will venture that way to see the 54 fly if you give me a heads up ([email protected]). I have a Jetmach 60 with a Rabbit that I am flying (not now due to my hand). I am building the 54 because I want to transition to a low wing jet with retracts. I believe it should make for a happy transition. Will present the Jetmach 60 to an Army friend as soon as he returns for the Big Island. Thanks, can't wait to see the installation and what others say about the electrics. I am also going to so some kit bashing by constructing the nose area based upon my using the same canopy used on the Reaction ARF. Stay well and safe. Chic

I can't speak about the Robarts. I went with the ProLink electric set from Dreamworks. The electric brakes have a bit of drag when they're off, but that's nothing to complain about. It's nice not having to worry about air compressors or air leaks. So far I'm happy with them (13 flights).

Joe,

I know they are "new", but try pulling the wheels and clean the "black" residue off disks and hub if present.

Chic - I will let you know when I am flying in the next week or so. You will love the 54 after your high wing. I have included some pics of my setup. This setup has worked pretty well and I will be logging my 50th this week.

I have the Robart electrics and HobbyKing brakes. Very impressed with both. Have worked perfectly for many flights.

George,

They've been that way since day one. I did apply some grease to the hubs and discs, and that helped a little. It just means that I need about 1/4 throttle to taxi.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll pull the wheels and check for any residue.

DRC - Don: Now that is a clean installation. Certainly a pattern to use when laying out my 54. Thank you again. Chic

Well between working on the TBF Avenger and the 54, I have the fin and the anhedral stab constructed but not finished. Here are a few photos. Having been a pylon racer when balsa was king, I used a few tactics such as 1/64 ply in the fin/stab leading edges to curb hanger rash. You will see the jig I built to get the 12 deg angle. I made the angle supports from 1/8th ply and 0.64th G-10. Now to sand and prepare to fiberglass both the fin/stab assembly. Now it is the Avenger's turn. Smile Chic

Thank you Mark P. Not trying to change Bruce's outstanding design, even after talking with him. I'm just in love with the F-4 so until I feel qualified to build and fly something like a Skymaster F-4, I thought I'd follow in the footsteps of several other modelers here on this same thread and jazz up my low wing/retract sport jet to sort of follow the F-4 lines. I am still a jet rookie and thought I'd get some excellent advice from the experienced fliers following this thread. Again, thank you for your supporting comment. Chic

How right you are Terry, "Back in the day". Don't want to go too far back - I can even remember Ambroid glue. Guess I have to do even more "kit bashing" because I am still working on my Grumman Avenger that I have to modify into an earlier version used by the Fleet Air Arm of the RAF. Thanks. Chic

For those of you who covered yours with monokote did you cover the entire model first before tackling all the electronics and fuel tanks/pumps installation? Also those who used the pst 600 turbine did you cutout the notch on the boat tail to move turbine as far forward as possible?

Having said that did you drill and mount the turbine before covering it or after. Meaning drilling out holes for turbine mount. I'm guessing that wedge that goes under the mount to give the turbine the angle is not glued to the frame but just screwed between the mount and the fuse??
