What are you guys doing for flight time and how much fuel are you carrying?

So far I calculated my fuel burn to 7.5 oz a minutes or a bit less, I had 1/2 of the 60 oz main tank with fuel and the 16 oz tank was empty, it flew about 6 minutes + the taxi for TO and the taxi after landing, I was thinking of changing the timer on the radio from 5 min to 7 or 8 minutes.

I have the 70 oz Kevlar tank with my old P70 and a 4 oz air trap. My timer is set for 6 minutes, and is triggered on and off by the throttle stick position, I think it is set for the timer to run whenever the throttle is over 25%. I typically still have 1/4 to 1/3 of a tank by the time I shut down.

I have a Dubro 80 Oz. fuel tank and Jetsmunt XBL100 turbine. Flight time is set to 6-1/2 minutes which leaves enough reserve for another minute.

That's pretty close to my set-up: Jets Munt M90 with 80 oz, Dubro tank. The timer starts when the gear goes up. I fly for 7 minutes, and have plenty of reserve.

Thanks, it is build as much as the Reaction was build in December, the difference with finishing this project is that I'm giving myself 3 months to complete, not one like the Reaction, I refreshed my Turbinator thread sooooo, keep on building

I had a second flight flight report but, lost all the text.

All I'm going to say now is, I love this jet and it is getting better and better with every flight.

Thank you for the nice comments Chic, I have to say, thank you all for the best wishes and fair weather for the maiden.

Flight report: flights number 3 and 4 have been flown, before the 4th flight a few more things needed to be checked at home and at the flying field, the 4th flight was flown in normal ops. all has been checked, fixed and tested, all I have to do now is fly, fly, fly.

Carlos this was one of the best build logs I have seen for ANY aircraft, It was a real pleasure following along with you through all of this. Thank You.
There is a lot of winter left here and I will miss all of your build progress reports. Although I am very glad to see it finally in the air. I hope you continue with some flight reports and impressions.
We have a club member here that finished his R54 back in October and there literally has not been a single day yet conducive to a maiden flight and probably will not be until April.

Jeff, I appreciate your comments and company throughout the build of the Reaction, it's good to have other member's views to know how the build is doing, I look at the pictures and think back the things that happened during the build like the BBQ, the opossum, the hot nights in summer, the cold nights in Dec, 12 hours day in the garage building and many other events that occurred, all part of the build also, all the members and non members that visited the thread, I enjoyed all that.

yes, I will be posting a few more flight reports, CG position when moved, flight times and flight characteristic of the model as it gets more flights and the flying fields where it has gone with pictures

It just occurred to me, I got the newest flying Reaction.

Who has the oldest flying Reaction? How many flights?

Anyone?

I was reading the first few pages of this thread and it looks like Tim from Angle Lake, WA, was the first one to fly a Reaction, followed by Dave Rigoti back on 3 20 2005.

Hello Guys,
It seems to me that the Reaction Kit now is only available as Fiberglass fuse. are the wings still built up or foam core?
What was the recent price for the wood kit ? In case I decide to purchase one from a private hand.
thanks
Solly

I don't think the fiberglass pst version has been available for years.

I got my R54 used back in 07, I was told it was 1 year old at that time. It is still very airworthy and waiting for the snow piles to shrink. At least the fuse was built in 06 after a crash and burn, the wing is older and was saved from that crash and burn by the PO. So I do not know just how old the wing is.
Here is it as owned by the PO, Yes it is still in that scheme and still looks the same, just a few more bumps and hanger rash.
My avatar is my R54 on snow skis. Because some one said it could not be done.

As to how many flights. I would have to go back thru my log book to start adding them up. My P70 that has been in it the whole time is on its 3rd set of bearings. How many flights does that equal? 300+? at ~10 minutes ea from start to shutdown? I really have no clue how many flights. I now put just enough of them in my log book to satisfy the AMA requirements to be able to sign off waivers as a CD.

That color scheme was really cool then and still is now, I will be looking into that color scheme a little closer, I like it for my next project.

Thank you for posting the history of you R-54, you too Jeremy.

I just looked at the pics again, it is old enough that it still has the 72Mhz antenna sticking straight up out of the front of the fuse...... so it is before 2.4Ghz

Here is a little more of a timeline of my R54.At the end of 2004 Dean Wichmann received an order from the first batch of Bruce Tharpe's Reaction 54. In the spring of 2005 Dean's freshly built white and purple R54 took to the skies. After flying the bird for some time Alan Blore in Calgary bought the airplane. It then went to at least one more owner unknown to me before being purchased at an auction by Bob White. I bought it from Bob the winter of 2017/2018 so that my dad would have something to fly at princeton. After a season of flying it and having more fun than I ever expected the covering started peeling off in flight. So my friend Paul Dries and I stripped it, discovering that somewhere down the line it was broken pretty good and repaired. I bought a bunch of ultracote and gave it an evel knevel color scheme and its ready for another 14 years
