RE: Longest Build in History?
Thanks John
Good of you for trying, looks like a lot of sanding and even more filler.........
The Gnat is probably way out of kilter with modern thinking, but it has charisma and when I was a little boy with it being flown by the Red Arrows made it a potential dream, so I will have to get it in the air at some point with a turbine.
If anyone is interested in building it, I would love to hear from them!!!
So I had best build something else in between then!!!
Even my ARTF's took a while to build, 3 months for a Twinjet!!!
Oh and it worked fine but the battery died on me, so it has only flown 12 times, and I keep thinking...... must get a replacement!
Modelling, what a hobby but I take my hat off to the man who started this thread, you stayed and saw it through!!!!

If I ever see a Gnat for sale that can take an 12lb or 7lb thrust engine then you will all find yourselves in the queue behind me. I would LOVE a Gnat.

RE: Longest Build in History?
I found a website for Braeckman Modellbau but could not find any mention of a Gnat, could not find a website for Aix.
Have you got any more information about the Gnat they sell?

RE: Longest Build in History?
Harry, i have an Hobby Aix / Braeckman catalog in my hands as we type.
It is scale 1/5.5, wingspan 132cm and length 165cm, a bit larger than the Jim Fox Hawk. Designed for Ramtec or Dynamax fans. Big access hatches for all components.
Epoxy/glass fuselage and ducting, sheeted styrofoam wings with pushrods pre-installed, sheeted tailplanes. Canopy clear plastic, 2 hatches in ABS plastic. A 1:1 plan and instructions in german and english are included. No precut formers, though. Pricing was 565 euros (should be somewhere around 350 pounds i would guess).
There is a pic of the model in the catalog, if you can cope with all the german scattered all over the place i could scan and mail it....

Your Viggen looks really good. I wish I could build somhng as nice like that, even if it took me 20 years.
I for once like seeing a rather odd project like Viggen rather than an F-15, same as I would prefer to see a Westland Lysander over a P-51.
Best on your maiden!

John,
I just came across this thread. Have you found time to maiden the Viggen yet? Did you purchase your kit from Jim at Top Gun UK in June, 1994? I was there! I too have several unfinished 10+ year projects icluding a Yellow Spit. I think it is time to dust it of and finish it.
Would love to hear how the Viggen flew.
Sean

RE: Longest Build in History?
Hi Sean,
No I purchased the kit from Jim's shop when he had it. I don't live too far away. The model flew well enough without the missiles, but with them it was horrible. The main problem was the visibility. I had chosen a splinter camoflage scheme and boy did it work! In the end I sold the model to someone with younger eyes and less likely to stuff it.
The main thing is it needs to be kept light, and with a nice bright colour scheme.
Regards,
John
