RE: SU-27 Sport Liebetrau Build Thread
Hi girls;-)!
This evening I checked the ground position of the model to make sure, the gear mounts will be at their correct positions. On the pics you see the printouts of my references to assure a good attitude relative to the ground. After all, it was a non issue, first try, perfect fit!
The only thing I´m a bit unhappy with are my wheel diameters. I ordered 90mm for the mains and 70mm for the nosewheel as stated in the manuals. After fitting the gears I saw that 100mm and 80mm would also fit without any problems[], at least with my Behotc retracts. Scale diameters would be 110mm/80mm. As I will fly most of the time from grass, the bigger the better. Mayby I´ll retrofit bigger wheels later on, but jet wheels are kind of expensive stuff to just lie around and take some dust[:'(].

RE: SU-27 Sport Liebetrau Build Thread
CC, for shure, the mains are visible in retracted position. But it´s the same as with the turbine, barely to recongnize in flight (look at Andys flightshot!). I think 5mm more radius wouldn´t make any difference for that but would greatly enhance the overall appearence with the gears down. The big wheels of the original plane are very characteristic.
If you state "worse" you imply it looks bad;-). Don´t forget it´s no scale project, it is a trainer with the appearance of the Flanker and should have a simple setup, no fiddly diddly at all. And I don´t see any simple and commercially availible solution for the SU-27(30/32/33/35..) main gear setup.
Greetings
Thomas

RE: SU-27 Sport Liebetrau Build Thread
Hi Friends!
After some pause because of my flooded hobby room and too much work for a living (but at least that produces the bucks to buy some nice toys) I continued with mounting my retracts into the fuselage. For that who are still intersted[sm=confused.gif] some details are following.
The main gear mounting plates came predrilled and preshaped with the kit. They are angeled to ensure the correct position of the retracted gear. I had to close the lower blind nuts for the upper screws with tape to prevent the resin from running into the threads. The lower mounting screws for the nylon gear mounts were marked to the main former and drilled through. Blind nuts are put into the former. The wooden plates were then glued to the main former with thickened slow epoxy, correct alignment corresponding to the wing tube was checked and then the lower screws tightened and a clamp positioned.
On the third pic she´s standing on her own feet for the first time, some kind of emotional moment, at least for me!
The last two pics show the stringers that form the gear compartment. It´s lite ply as I ran out of nomex-sandwhich material and wanted to continue cos I´m far behind schedule. This compartments further stiffen the fuselage and give great rigidity. Besides that, no debris can get into the fuselage through the wheel bays. A good solution again. The kit isn´t that high tech as some others but Peters design shows great experience and some really clever solutions in the completed model. It makes the Sport SU a very durable and easy to operate trainer with exceptional flying characteristics.
Sorry folks, forgot to take some detail pics of the nosegear installation, but as there is some nosewheel door-stuff to work on you will see this area later - maybe more than you like[sm=sleeping.gif]

RE: SU-27 Sport Liebetrau Build Thread
Hi folks!
Due to personal circumstances I´ve no working room right now, therefore the project is currently on halt. I hope to be able to finish the plane during this winter and fly it in the next season.
@pdrlele: I´ve seen your SU in RCJI in the Vilesse report. Very nice plane, a very ambitious project. Congrats. Maybe we´ll meet in Vilesse next year as I plan to be there!
@Heatseeker_Hill: like Bob said, the turbine is almost invisible during flight, no spoil at all. At least for me and many others that have seen this plane in live action. Even without cover, as flown by Andy Scholl, the engine is hardly to be recognized in flight.
If it´s too bad for you, build it as a twin with two 54´s and have big fun.
I´ll keep you guys informed via this thread when the build continues.
regards
Thomas

Thomas,
I fly the small Grumania SU27 and just love the plane!
A bigger one would propably fly even better! Do you think I could put a Simjet 3000 in the Liebetrau SU27, or would that be too much!??
Heatseeker Hill: The small SU27 also has the turbine between the nacelles, and I have been trying to see it during flight - it just doesn't show at all - she just looks great!

RE: SU-27 Sport Liebetrau Build Thread
Tor, I think the Simjet pushes about 135N, that should be no problem. Andy Sholl uses a P-120, I plan to use a Frank TJ-74KS with 145N, my buddy Kurt flew it with a Frank TJ-70/16 with 165N. That is kind of overkill, but with good throttle management no prob at all. Just fly it in a smooth and scale like manner, like a plane like this should operated to get the most fun out of it;-)! And for some High-Alpha-Manouvering, a bit of extra OOOMMPHHH is a nice thing to have!
I´m aware of your thread about the Grumania Flanker, very nice, indeed!
Regards
Thomas

Hallo 747drvr !!
Thank you !!
Yes, I use 2 JetCAT P80 and the power is ok !! Come with flaps help during the landing and take off procedure.
I use personal HIDRAULIC landing gear, because I didn't found anything on the market that fit it !!
All the wing, tha tail and middle fuselage is covered with allumininium.
Ciao.

Again , very nice . Mine won't be as detailed or as powerful ! I can't find your paint scheme in any pictures . I'm thinking of this paint scheme . Not as colourful as some but still very interesting and relatively easy to do.
