RE: DUBAI RC Club New Runway
G'day Daryl,
Well done on the fantastic facilities you guys have built.
You'd be horrified with what we call flying fields here in Sydney.............
Kind regards
Ken

RE: DUBAI RC Club New Runway
Hi Darryl
What are emirate's request to find a job as first officer on long range flights : B777 or Airbus.
I'm 35 years old and Approx 4000 flight hours on Airbus 320 and Boeing 747 in Air France.
What are earnings and taxes? What about your planning and flight hours by month ?
Stan ( sometimes in DXB, often in AUH )

Darryl
I have now been in Doha for a month and have met Khalid (thanks for the contact). Apparently we are getting a new club facility, sponsered by the govt. The flying is presently done at a full size airfield (Al Khor) and only on weekends. I believe they will break ground anyday now and get construction of the new facility underway. The whole facility is expected to cost $600,000-00 so it should be good.
My planes are still to arrive and there is not much activity at the moment because of the heat.
I visited Dubai last weekend to see a friend on the Palm Project - great place.

RE: DUBAI RC Club New Runway
Dear All
I would like to come and fly my Airbus in Dubai field
Problem is to transport the boxes ( airbus is about 4 meter long ( A330-300 ))
Seems to be a lovely place
Let's interrest some people for Dubai to organize a manifestation
If they invite me, I will be happy to come [sm=thumbup.gif]

Hello Tommy,
Nice to hear from you, I hope you are keeping well. I will give Ahmed your regards, we were actually flying together last Thursday.
Rory, please give the Quater JWM guys my regards, we had a great time in Hungary.
Willfrance, once a year we have the "Jet Over UAE" competition. It's normally held in November. It would be great to have you guys over here for the competition. Check out these websites:
www.emiratesrc.com
www.jetsoveruae.com
Unfortunately there are some safety concerns at the field these days. About 3 months after the runway was completed they started building horse stables to the east of the runway, only 300m away. Also the runway is very close to the highway (which passes to the north of the field), and the power lines to the west.
We are currently seeking a new site that will be for Jets only and this present site will remain for the other masses, no dissrespect meant here as I still fly helicopters and conventional piston powered aircraft.
In the mean time the field is looking good as the irrigation and grass covered ares are taking shape.
Kind regards,
Darryl

Will,
At present there are NO weight restrictions on Turbine powered model aircraft in the UAE.
Regarding the cost of shipping your model here, this could be fairly expensive. Emirates Sky Cargo would be a good place to get a quote, but you are probably looking at about $1500 USD round trip to airfreight a box of that volume.
Cheers,
Darryl

RE: DUBAI RC Club New Runway
greetings guys,
We fly in oman in a emergency runway (gravel pit) and that runway looks really awesome we're always having trouble with our landing gear, we are planning a flying trip to dubai is it possible to join you at the runway for a day of fun fly, are there any events programed in dubai, ive been flying for a while now back home i used to doexhibitions, with giant scale and pylon racingevents, we are a group of about 12 people. Not sure if all will go but i would certainly be going and taking my 33% yak even if they take it from me at the border on my way back hahahaa
cheers from muscat,

RE: DUBAI RC Club New Runway
Hello ALL,
Actually I need to post this information as a lot has happened in the past 13 years.
Dubai has TWO active flying sites. The original venue, at Nad Al Sheba – which this forum was about – is used nowadays for general RC flying (everything from Jets to Helicopters to Trainers). This venue was established about 15 years ago and is basically at the bottom shores of the Dubai Creek. It was a fairly smooth, salty, and crusty surface but was quite high maintenance on your landing gear due to the salt dust and resulting rust. Several years ago the runway was resurfaced with asphalt and the site remained fantastic for about 2 years and then unfortunately the most bizarre things happened:
A massive EIGHT lane highway, a SUB Power Station (with the associated power lines), and several Horse Stables used for quarantine purposes were built and erected extremely close to the runway. With all this development it meant that this venue was no longer suitable for most of us Jet Pilots so about 3 years ago another field was built near to Al Lisaili (about 30km South East of Dubai on the Dubai to Al Ain Highway).
The runway layout at Lisaili is similar to Nad Al Sheba however the dimensions are a little less (250m long and 20m wide). I will download and post a Google Map of the exact locations soon but in the mean time here are the directions for Lisaili:
1. Dubai to Al Ain Highway.
2. Approximately 6km past the NEW Rugby SEVENS Stadium is EXIT 37, on your Right.
3. Take this EXIT and turn Left at the STOP sign, then First Left again to cross over the Highway.
4. Follow this asphalt road which turns to the Right and goes past the New Camel Souk and Mosque.
5. The New “Dubai RC Club” is on your Left at the end of this road, about 2km from the EXIT 37 junction.
Lisaili is used mainly for Jets and is a perfect venue as there are no obstacles. Once again I will post some photos soon.
Frank – we are flying again on Friday 19th (all day at Lisaili).
Jason – sometimes we do fly on Saturdays but since we are flying next Friday from sunrise to sunset I think the guys will take a break on Saturday.
I hope this information was useful.
Regards,
Darryl Tarr

Hey Darryl,
Once again many thanks for the info. Being from out of town, and not taking the directions you sent with me, I made some wrong turns and ended up totally lost. I am sure however to follow your directions and find you next time. Is anyone flying during Eid holidays ???
