F104 Starfighter kits Which is best
I am looking for help on choosing a Starfighter kit/plan build for a Wren 54 Supersport.
Is there anyone out there who has built one for a small turbine who would like to comment.

There is this smaller one from Krumpp:

He says it has flown with a KJ-66 turbine.

RE: F104 Starfighter kits Which is best
I have been flying an Aeroflot (Philip Avonds design manufactured by Aeroloft) for about 5 years. The Avonds design is absolutely amazing. The model deviates very slightly from scale in the intake area and the wing airfoil is not scale. As for flying the thing is very fast and absolutely rock stable! Mine weighs 20# and is powered by a Ram 750. Landings are slower than expected for a wingless airplane. I can be flown safely off of 450-500' runways that are paved. I used Robart sport retracts with gear doors but PA offers a scale gear package for the kit. The kit is very easy to build and the fuse comes apart to help transport, the wings are not removable. The Aeroloft version has panel lines but you must buy the turbine tailpipe and bypass extra. The Avonds kit comes complete with bypass and tailpipe but does not have panel lines. It is however about 3-4 pound lighter thant he Aeroloft. There are other 104 kits out there that are stated to fly well but this one is very scale, easy to build and you will be extremely pleased with the airplane performance. Hope this helps.

The Aeroloft version WAS a good kit when they 1st put it out there, but beware of Aeroloft kits! They are a knockoff of the Avonds kit, it is not the real deal. There have been so many kits pulled from the molds Aeroloft uses that the quality has gone out the window ( I know this from 1st hand experiance ). And Aerolofts support is no where close to what it should be !!!!!!! Long story short, get the Avonds kit! It may take a while to get to you, but Aeroloft takes forever also.

I have built and flown the F-104G from Avonds, and I was amazed with the performance of the plane on a SimJet 1200. I would love to build another F-104 some time, and I'm sure it will be a Avonds kit again.
