RE: A-7 Corsair Build Thread
Well, My favorite Marine sent some photos of the A-7 taken at the Desert Jet Storm 2007. Thanks again, Joe.
The landing shot was taken after a sizable bounce that looked like it was going to progress into a major "kangaroo hop" routine. On test flight number three, this same type of bounce ended with the jet on it's back and nearly totalled. After a re-build, CG shift, thrust line change and nose strut spring change, the recovery became manageable. I just slammed the power to it and immediately went to about 30% power followed by full up elevator and it settled in very nicely. You can see the up elevator in the picture.
Tailwinds,
John

Here are a few pictures of my latest project just out of the box; this will be the number two ship in the project started by John Gerhart and Jim Sominich. I will be making some scale gear for the jet. I will be powering it with a P120 sized turbine exact brand still to be determined.

Wayne made the wing plugs and we made molds for the wings and control surfaces. It was quite a learning experience! With laser cut structure and a glass-balsa-glass layup, it turned out very strong. I put the new wing on the original fuse. I decided to upgrade the power from the Wren SuperSport to a Wren 100. I also added an iGyro3e to settle things down a bit.
The gyro makes a world of difference and the extra power is awesome!
I have no idea why the thumbnails appear sideways and up side down!

Fantastic!
So it looks about 1/8 scale? A real head turner at any jet meet I bet?
I love the 60's to 70's era fleet paint scheme more than the later all over grey camo. Do you get to fly much or is it kept back for special occasions?

Dave, yes John did attend that event with this plane. He was also at BITW and the Ottumwa, IA event with it.
He and I co-created it quite a few years back. Its proven to be a very rewarding project, as he has over 170 flights on it. The first flights didn't go so well, but the plane was rebuilt, with adjustments made and its been a success ever since.
Ship #2 is going to try EDF power.

David, I've never studied the -K; I can see its a 2-seater, but I don't know what has been changed/stretched. Same wing and tail as the -E ?
The Century Jet airplane length is 79.5"; ours is 73".
One thing we did differently was to create a wing with the scale airfoil - which is quit thin and under-cambered.
Our friend Peter Laing (in Fort Worth) did that design for us.
