Sounds like you need a new starter motor, or do as the electric car dudes do and cut the commutator and replace the brushes if you can.
There is no PWM to the starter motor, only a FET that switches the motor on or off.
But as Joe says contact the agent you got it from...

Hi Guys,

I just purchased a new set of JJ1400. However we are not able to start it.

When we initiate the start the ECU (version 3.0) is unable to spin the rotor or sometimes it spins but at very low speed. Therefore the turbine is unable to ingnite. If it ignites for some reason the turbine cannot start and dispays time-out. During some starts the turbine goes into fire (big propane fire) and then tries to start the turbine and then displays “weak gasâ€.

I believe this is software problem becuase the intial voltage to the start motor is too low. Can we change the hidden parameters so that the propane start voltage to the electric starter can be increased?.. Or is there any other suggestion?..

Best Wishes from Turkey (the first JJ owner in Turkey)

Murat Bukey

Hi a quick call to your local rep will assist, as if you see a low voltage on screen it means your battery is toast[:@][][>:] with maybe a dead cell. If the initial reading is 8.4 volt there should be minimal drop on the starter motor engaging, so substitute and try a new battery pack.....

The start motor leads may be shorted to the housing. If the leads were poorly soulder to the motor they can short to the housing. This condition can and will cause a slow or no start motor. I had the same condition with my 1400 and cooked the ecu on the third or fourth try to start.

Bench running a necessary evil??? Never bench ran my JetCat P60 or my Wren 44 Gold before installing. Both run as advertised without issues for many hours. This bench running condition must be specific to JetJoes??

Dave
Dave

There is a vast difference between a Wren 44 and Jetjoe shipped turbine, as Mike at Wren will have test run theirs, only after a professional build, making sure that the FADEC parameters are all set up and all is functioning well. QA/QC is not high on the list for Jetjoe as this thread confirms. They continue to ship with basic defects and some reps carry out a 'pre service' as who needs the grief of a sticking bendix of folded lube tube on a brand new turbine.

So for Jetjoe owners bench running is a necessary evil and some Jetjoe turbines just never ever make it into the air as Chris on this thread will confirm. Just another disappointed Jetjoe customer 4000 miles away from China who got about 90 minutes bench running before melt down.

I have a 1200 kit and a simple fix for kinked lines is to mark and drill three hole in front cover and let fuel and gas lines come straight out the front, sure does make the front cover a lot easier to put on too. Maybe doesn't look real pretty but better than a kinked lube or fuel line.

Perfomed my taxi & brake tests this past Sunday evening.

All went very well and the jet tracks, rolls out, and stops in a perfect straight line.

Waiting on a nice calm evening for my maiden flight at my local regional airport.

Engine now has 2 hrs. 4 min. total time.

I hope to have video of the flight.

The problem with the JJ1400 is solved. There was no problem with the starter motor, no short circuit et.. The problem was with the hidden parameter in the FADEC. Parameter 15 (Propane Start Voltage) was too low..

Thanks a lot for all comments.

Dear B1Driver,

Who is Gabe Brown? Is he the North American distributor/support for JetJoe? Do you know his contact information?

I have a JetJoe engine. It started lif as a JJ1200, then upgraded to a JJ1400, then rebuilt a few months ago with the latest improvements. It is in a Super Reaper. I hope to fly it in the next few weeks. The snow just left here and I need to warm my thumbs up on a sport plane before I fly a jet.

Thanks,

B1Driver,

Gabe Brown (JetJoe U.S. Distributor) setup my JJ1400, ECU parameters, and test ran it prior to shipping. He offers this service to all his customers if they wish.

It has 124 minutes total run time and is still on its first McCoy MC-9.

Winds here in N.C. have been 10-20 mph all week. Hopefully, they will settle by weeks end for my maiden flight.

Just back home from three weeks in Toronto and it was cold[&:][&:] though I surely love Canada and of course Canadians. Back home in the UK they had 24 degrees heat one Sunday and the best flying weather[][]. That said I managed hands on visits to view and inspect two Lancasters. That was two great days out, the enginer servicing the flying Lanc is German by birth and was 14 yrs old in bombing raid, then in Canada met the pathfinder pilot who dropped those same raid markers.

Why would Gabe even have to do that? that is if all JetJoe Turbines are all perfect condition leaving China! What about the guys who order direct like Chris and get a real bummer of scrap metal. What about guys like me who re engineered CCs and lube lines on the early ones to get them to even run and then after many hours running found basic engineering faults. You will have a different view after 300 minutes on the FADEC.

Paul

Hi Paul.
It will either be the boomerang intro with fixed gear for the start or the STORM from adjets or the velox from digitech turbines or the Harpoon II from digitech again .
I have not made up my mind yet but max price will be ~1000 Euro.
