Default Eurosport Thrustpipe question !

Hi !

Sorry if this question might have been asked before, i did a search but did not come up with the answer i wanted.

I´m in the final stage of getting my New Eurosport ready, i will power her with a Merlin Turbine with about ~ 17kg of thrust.
I´m not sure if i should use the standard Stock Pipe included in the Kit, who has experience with this thrust class and this pipe ?
What pipe are you using ?

Would be nice to hear from you !

Warm regards

Thomas

Hi, there few people using the stock pipe with similar configuration. I am not an expert in this area, but mayority prefers to use a Tam's 90mm pipe, no bypass. Also Gaspar recomend using a bigger pipe for this engine you can chek it at http://www.digitech-turbines.com/sho...tml?lang=en-us

Stock pipe will not handle the Merlin... Certainly too small but also poorly made for anywhere near this amout of thrust. A 90mm Pipe is suggested, TAM pipe is the common choice.

Thanks for your answers !

Thats what i also thought, then i will oder a bigger one ! It´s pricy to buy a Tam´s Pipe over Seas - but i know that Digitech Turbines have a bigger one especially for the Merlin.

warm Regards

Hi Thomas.

I'm flying a SimJet Nexus with 17 kg thrust in my Euro and I use the large pipe from Orbit Electronic. I got it for 100 Euro at the last Jetpower event in Germany. Check out their [link=http://orbitronic.de/]website[/link]

i can see you have it very far inside the bell mouth
did you measure the thrust like this?
we got not so good results with the turbine that far inside

I have a 30 millimeter gap between the end of the turbine tail cone and the beginning of the thrust tube.

At what distance did you get the best result? Thanks.

Hi Stig !
Hi Sandor !

Thank you for your answers, more more question.

I have the full inlet ducting and the carbon fibre bypass build in, is that ok ? Or should i cut of at least the of the Bypass, or should i not use the bypass at all ? Stig, I see that you are not using it ? How about you Sandor ?

Hi Thomas.

While the inlet ducting will save your turbine from a lot of dust, grass and other foreign objects, it is my experience the you will also loose power through the ducting. Last year I maidened a P160 powered Eurosport, that had the full ducting. It didn't have the same power and acceleration. I also flew another SimJet 3000 powered Eurosport with ducting, and it didn't have the same thrust/acceleration either. It all depends on how you fly your airplane. I like to fly it slow and with high AOA. I like tight manouvers at slow speed and full throttle. I would not fit the inlet ducting. I have a FOD screen in front of the turbine instead. Just my 2 cents.

i used the intake
and just the front of the duct to the turbine
i had a fod screen on the turbine and cut the black duct cover(s) in half
so that the rest of the turbine is in free air
and the half duct covers the intake so that no heavy objects and dust get thru the gear openings easy
the engine is more cooler
the exhaust you can leave open in the front
dont forget to drill the holes in the back of the fuselage to let air escape

Hi Thomas!

I am flying a Eurosport II/ Merlin 160 with the inlet ducts, full by-pass and the stock pipe. My Euro has ulimited vertical from take-off with 4.4 liters of fuel on board with the rpm set at 116K, so I can't be loosing much thrust... Temp is around 640-650c at 116K.

If I was to buy a new pipe for it, I would buy the big Tam straight pipe....

You can read more about it in [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=2447560]this[/link] thread

Thanks Guys for your reply´s !

I see, many roads bring you to Rom eventuelly. I will first go with the full ducting but with the bigger Pipe from orbit. Then iw ill see how it goes. Afterwards i still can cut away some parts if necessary !

I will maiden the beast next week - so wish me luck

Good luck on the maiden Thomas!

You'll love the quick throttle response and the power of the Merlin
