Are they people flying RC Airliners ?
Dear Guys
I am opening this thread to check if some Airliners builders or flyers are on this forum
My opinion is to know how many we are to be closer and to help if needed
In France, we are 2 persons building, with some other ones that would like to start the adventure
What about in other countries like UK, Spain Europe, US and Other parts of the world ?
For the ones that have a web site, I would also like to create a link page
I am 35 years old at the moment, building a 1/16 scale A330-300 ( lengh 3.97 m, wingspan 3.85 m ) using 2 x Jetcat P80 engines
Some details can be found on my web page : http://perso.wanadoo.fr/mes-avions-rc
you can also find 3 videos to download concerning first rolling tests and light tests
Awaiting for your replies

the turbine airliner scene in the US is not very exciting. The EDF Airliner scene is larger and more involved. I am building the EDFModel.com 303 airliner next week. Not very many kits out there and even less ARF's for Airliners. From what I can remmeber there are no ARF's so the market needs to supply them for us
I read the european Jet magazines and it always seems you guys have it larger and cooler than us We have had a few nice airliner projects but you will have to search for them here.
good luck and keep us updated.

Will,
Airliner's here in the State's do not appear to be as popular as they are abroad.... why, I don't know. Below is a link to a good thread on the airliner subject and a couple pic's of a friends scratch built 757-200 powered with prop engines.

RE: Are they people flying RC Airliners ?
Will,
I've juste seen your work on your airliner. Well, I'm really impressed, what a good job ! I especially love the lights on this one, it gives her a very scale outlook .
Do you intend flying at big events such as 'La ferte' or any other show ? It 's worth it, definitely ... And as you've pointed out, twin (or more) turbine airliners are so uncommon on our fields ...
Keep us posted on your maiden ! My feeling is that it will be an easy flyer... What about wing loading ?

Will, PCM Models (in Florida) kits an L1011 (Lockheed TriStar). It uses a single turbine in the rear of the fuse. I have one a little more than half finished. I hope to have if flying this fall. I will be using a P80. (The attached pic was taken near the start of assembly). Bob

RE: Are they people flying RC Airliners ?
That is surprising that nomore Airliners are flying in USA
Here in Europe some peoples worked toghether to propose to ones that would like, to have parts to build
Norbert Rauch has made several moulds of liners, and Manfred Koster cut styro with CNC hot wire machine
I would like to meet on this forum some guys that are missing some info or parts, to help them to start their project
In europe, the rule was that weight had to be limited to 20 kg ( around 40 - 45 pounds I think )
Now, you can build heavier, rules are to have a technical check by administration and to make 2 test flights in presence of administration inspectors ( sorry for my english )
I think lot of people loves airliners, even if in flight, we do not go for acrobatics
On the pictures sent from UK, I can see the A340 ( yellow ) that was made by Peter Michel from Germany, the guy how manufacture actualy a A380 : http://www.michel-concorde.de/airbus/a380/index.html
I made mine with parts from Norbert and Manfred
So do not hesitate to contact me if you want more information, but be sure that before starting to build yours, you need lot of energy and resolution, because it is a lot of work

RE: Are they people flying RC Airliners ?
robrow, that thing is awesome. If you dont mind me asking, do you have plans you would be willing to sell?
Scale airliners is one of my main interests for me in this hobby. Although Im relatively new to this Im very interested in airliners, and it is unfortunate we have little to no resources here in the US. Im working on smoe small EDF airliners now, and plan on scratch building a larger DC-9 later on for ducted fan, but its really hard to find anything in the States besides what you can draw up yourself.
The only troubling thing I have with the L-1011 is it flies a little too fast to look right in the air. In my opinion these should be slower to look proper. Just my opinion. Otherwise that L-1011 is a great looking airplane.

RE: Are they people flying RC Airliners ?
Dear Groendahl
nice to know that one more people in Europe is building
I was with Norbert in Hemau, and we meet also Carten
I wish you lot of pleasure with piloting your airliner
Norbert made a flight with both 2 concorde in Lerthe
I could not fly with him in Hemau, after I made a mistake in my frequency selection, we hade the same chanel
Do not hesitate to ask any info about the contruction, or here, or by e mail ( [email protected] )
I will strat end of September, the contruction of a KC 10 ( Refueler DC10 ), got already the fiberglass parts, and will receive styro parts on September 26th

You can now count me in from Canada. I am currently building 1/14th scale Super Connie and just got 1/16th scale kit of Boeing B727-200 offered by Kranz models of Germany.
I will be Starting work on my B727 once my Connie is finished sometime in next 3-4 months. At this time I am planning to power 727 with 2x 90sz glow engine with mounting and ducting for turbine built into.
I know there are 2 other modellers here in Canada who also have and fly airliner models.

RE: Are they people flying RC Airliners ?
Props4ever, welcome n this world
I have seen here in a meeting, a superconnie mesuring more than 6 meters from Melardy team
I got a vid and take off is realy realistic
This is a nice plane to
I can imagine, regarding your name, that yo do not want to use turbines on your B727, otherwise, as a major part, they use only 1 turbine in the center of the rudder
Anyway, let us know about your work
