RE: Dean Lassek A-10 - from the bottom
Has anyone been in contact with Dean Lassek lately? Is he still out of the country? I have sent him an email and a PM with no response.
I'm antsy to get started on this project- hoping to make it to Florida Jets next March which leaves me only 4 months to build !!!
Anyone have a kit or plans sitting in their closet they want to sell ?
Does anyone know which fiberglass parts he still has available ?

WooHoo !!!
Can I get the plans from you once you get settled in so I can get started on the wings and tail ?
I actually found someone locally who can laser cut whatever I need, I just have to get the plans scanned..unless you know of someone who is already set up to cut the parts.
I am most likely going to cut my own wings from blue foam, then glass them... I built a hot wire bow this weekend and still "experimenting" with it...
I am going with twin electric fans on this one.... I decided against the shrouded prop (electric) because I don't think it would sound right
but the twin EDF's sound pretty realistic on my smaller A-10.
Dean, please send me a PM or email with pricing and payment info
Thanks !!!

Well, after 3 years I finally got around to start the build. I mounted the front formers for the nose wheel unit.

Got my 5" fans and speed controls directly from United Hobbies in Hong Kong. These things are friken' HUGE!! [X(]Need to order the Hacker motors next. Others have tested this combo at 17.5k RPM and approx 12 lbs of thrust each unit, giving me 24 pounds of thrust total. I don't see the electric version coming in at 50 pounds- using the batteries to get the correct C.G., etc... I am hoping for somewhere around 30-35 pounds AUW.
Put 6 nice flights on the baby hog today and finally got her dialed in!!
And thanks for posting pics Stig !! Keep them coming !!

I can see it's going to be nicely detailed!!
I notice you are using a razor saw to cut the 'glass. I'm not sure if you know this, but you can also use a hot-knife to cut the glass.... Basically an exacto blade in a soldering iron. I believe Great Planes or hobbico sells one, very cheap only about $10 u.s. Works great for cutting curves in the 'glass, and no dust !!

Got some more work done. I glued the formers with Hysol. I also made arrangements to connect the two fuselage halfs with 6 mm bolts.

after you get your testing done please tell me what setup you have with the UH 5'Fans.
if you get the 12# thrust let me know, there is a post in the electric forums stating they only get 8# thrust out of them (of course everyones motor/batt and esc are generally setup differently)
these fans are very innexpensive and is someone could acuatly get at least 10/11 # of thrust out of these babies I'll have to buy a few, a few projects in mine, although at only 8#'s times 2
is 16 so an A10 could still be built maybe around 1/9 scale .

I just looked up on some spec's.
maybe have to build the A10 a bit smaller than 1/9 scale unless its built super light.
I have a 1/9th scale Y/A F16 and was baseing the size on that, little did i know an A10 @ 1/9th scale has a span of 80".

I got a little more work done on the A-10. I started working on a custom fuel tank and also did some woodwork for the engine mount.

Electric power???????
Yep
The only solid info I have on the EDF fans that I plan on using is here: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=767222
Still waiting for someone to post the static thrust tests.
All we have so far is this, on a 5" fan....
10S Lipo @ 2000W, 55Amps, 17'500 rpm static
That is a very low amp draw compared to most large EDF setups...
This is the "cheap" setup I am going to bench test, if it doesn't put out enough thrust there is always the E-turbax fan or maybe a Dynamax fan rotor can be used.
If we can duplicate the Ducted Fan setup with electric, we are there !!
P.S. Dean- The check is in the mail

There is no doubt you will make it go with those fans. I don't know the pitch of the blades but a 5" fan should do the job. (Just not at 42K!!!)

Lookin' good Stig... Are you planning on separating the fuse halves for transport?
