Hate to flatter you - but the performance of your SJ with a Supersport was just fantastic. I still think of it with pleasure. But as you said the at time - "You have got to stay on top!" This means to anyone thinking of copying you - you have to be a good pilot to enjoy.

I have to say I would find it hard to find a better matched engine to airframe that the Starjet with a Supersport. As A.D don't make the kit anymore possibly due to the increasing Arf market, I think it would be a top seller if the Starjet came out as a Arf.
In fact, Eric if you happen to read this thread here's your first order for a Starjet Arf!!

My StarJet in the photo earlier in the thread is now flying with a Wren Supersport, a very nice engine indeed, making, as Jason, says an ideal airframe/engine combo. Performance is no better than with the old JPX engine, but if you open the throttle past 1/3rd it REALLY goes ! The acceleration is quite extraordinary both on take off and in flight with virtually unlimited vertical. The model really benefits, too, from the reduced weight of the SS compared with the JPX, the approach speed with crow braking is amazingly slow.
Great idea of a StarJet RTF, Jason.
Regards, David Gladwin.

RE: Aviation Design "Starjet
So this Starjet lands slowly with flaps and would take a Wren MW54 Mk3...........................................
OK, put me on the list, but only if it's an ARTF.

If you guys can persuade him to re-open the SJ, please put in a word for Exocet. I believe it has the same wing and tail/fin setup. I find mine fast enough with a Bee (Jet Central) and I suspect with a Supersport it would be ballistic. Both models are classics but you can get 3 litres of fuel in the Exocet. If you look at the Exocet thread, there are plenty guys saying the same - put them back in production.

Well, finally I have got it all put together and had a successful engine run.
Many thanks to David Gladwin and his conversion article in RCJI.
I still have to modify the nose gear for self centering.
I need suggestions as where to place the overflow from the main tank, and also the antenna location. I have a whip antenna I can put on the Rx.

RE: Aviation Design "Starjet
Bob,
congratulations. I have a star jet being built right now and then I will rig it etc. Can you describe how you where you put the elevator/rudder servos? I am considering flat servos in each surface, I know this will add tail weight but I want a strong connection there. I considered putting the overflow in the center, bottom of the fuse.
How much lead did it take to balance?
Joe

Joe, good luck on your build, everything is a tight fit.
I bought this used with no rudder or elevator servos installed. Elevator servos are in the horizontal tail, I made a mount and placed the Rudder servo below the fin in the fiberglass fairing.
With the UAT filled and behind the nose wheel, I had to ad 5 Oz of lead in nose, I have two, 4-cell, 1100 mA/Hr rx packs in the nose as well as the ECU batt.
FYI, I did not mount the gas can and solenoid in the plane, and use them externally to start the turbine.
Re the overflow, I have been concerned about fuel running out and going in the air intakes at the side and below the fuse??
What about the antenna??
Regards
Bob

RE: Aviation Design "Starjet
I got a chance to fly LimeyBob's Starjet this morning with the P-60.
Awesome plane!
It took off and climbed out on it's own very smoothly.
No trim needed for the flight.
I flew it around at 20% power which equaled about 100mph.
This will easily become ballistic.
Flaps out it slowed down nice.
I chopped power to idle anout 500ft from the runway and it held a nice smooth flare all the way down to the runway.
Landing was very smooth.
Great plane!!
A quick photo of it getting slowed down

Yes of course, but need wait a pair of month.
Fuselage, canopy hatch and engine hatch in fiber glass, wings and horizontal fins in foam-fiber-balsa with the hinges pre-installed.
