A new Facet is born
I have finished my Facet 2300 and have 5 flights on her now. JetCat P80 and Trim wheels and brakes with Hitec 5945 servo's. She flies great!! I wanted a "sunday jet flier" and it's perfect for that. Thanks Kerry Sterner and Great Northern Models for putting out a fine product.

RE: A new Facet is born
Kerry.....I'd buy a Facet 2300, if it were an HP version, in a heartbeat (for an AMT180). Any plans to update it as you did w/ the 1200HP?

RE: A new Facet is born
Hi Ray:
YES, there is a 2300 H/P in the works (there is one flying in New Mexico) but due to my workload on my full time job, I have not been able to get back to it for the past 2+ months and complete the drawings and assy. manual changes.
I have promised Gary Baker and Mark McCraken a set of H/P wing cores for evaluation and I need to get them out to theses gentlemen as both of them are well experienced with the 2300 aircraft and can provide excellent feed back as to the expected difference in handling as it has more area and the flaps are much larger and based on my first hand experience with the 1200-H/P there will be a SIGNIFICANT enhancement of the low end short field performance which has to be seen to be believed.
Bob Boswell has made some small variances to his 2300 flaps which has yielded exceptional low speed performance which has allowed him to fully HOVER, with NO FORWARD speed in a 10 mph headwind and this was demonstrated several times at the Liberty Bell Jet Rally. The 2300 H/P will include these mods as well as all the other FACET series designs.
We continuously make revisions to the plans and manuals to pickup any and all customer suggestions as to building and flight performance.
One other note of interest, the H/P Swept wing will PLUG DIRECTLY into ANY existing FACET ! However, due to the sweep in the wing, the MAIN LANDING GEARS will need to be moved AFT 3/4 in. on the 1200 and 1 in. on the 2300 to compensate for the AFT MOVEMENT of the C/G of the swept wing. That is all that is needed to convert the straight wing version to the H/P wing on ANY FACET.
There is a rumor in the FACET skunk works, that a FACET- 1500 R/G is in the engineering phase as well. More on this as things progress.
Best Regards:

Kerry...it was Bob's 2300 at Capitol Jets that truly peaked my interest in the Facet. It did, indeed, astound w/ it's performace: a pattern-type jet that could be slowed almost to nothing. 'Course he's also a hell of a pilot!
I certainly look foreward to seeing your new HPs....good luck!

RE: A new Facet is born
Hi Fellas:
The new FACET is officially designated the 1700R/G. Unlike the 1200 and the 2300, where it got its series no. from the SIMJET engine size it was designed around, this designation derives from the mear fact that it is 17% bigger than the 1200 and 17% smaller than the 2300, aka sized directly between the 2 current sizes and boasts a 82 in. W.S.
It reuses the H/P swept wing and tail plan form but has a slight change in the horizontal tail in that it has 7 degrees dihedral in the stab where the H/P has 10 degrees anhedral in the stab. The reason is quite simple, I want each version of the FACET to be physically different.
The R/G designates - Retract - version. I have redesigned the original plate main gear to fold into the bottom of the fuselage and this is coupled with a low profile 90 degree rotating nose gear so that it too lies flat in the bottom of the fuselage allowing for turbine equipment to be placed under the cockpit deck allowing for a CLEAR Canopy.
We are in the finishing throws at present and will provide more details when we have flown it. First flights will be powered with a SIMJET-1200S/P (18#)
Happy Holidays

RE: A new Facet is born
Hi Facet-users and Kerry,
Just want to show you my Facet 2300 - as Wayne mentioned, a perfect Sunday Flyer, so I decided to make mine in Saturday Night Colors...
The plane was finished last summer, and I have had a lot of fun with it.
It's powered by an old rebuild Simjet 80N - and it's enough... [8D]
The tail is made removable, due to transport issues
