Full scale images of F-18E Super Hornet, etc. from Oceana NAS airshow 2005
Guys,
I thought some of you might appreciate the Super Hornet & a few other pics I took last Saturday at the Oceana NAS airshow here.I had the great luck of getting VIP tix from a friend of mine so I got to sit right VERY close to the flight line for the action. And man was it awesome to get this close, you normally cant get any closer than this unless your part of the flight crew
I was kinda bummed that a Jolly Roger F-18E didn't fly, they changed the flight lineup at the last minute for the Super Hornet squadrons.I can only upload one pic at a time cause I still have not figured out how to reduce the file size yet with my new Nikon D70 software

another
Navy Heritage flight.A privately owned Corsair with a F-18 c & Super Hornet [8D]
And for those of you that have not seen first hand yet,the Super Bug is FAR more manueverable than a F-18c!

OK I will send one more of the F-14 since we wont see much more of these birds before too long. This would have been a superb pic had I gotten the jet centered !! mannnn [8D]Not bad detail tho nonetheless considering that the F-14 was approx. 400-450 feet away in this shot
My favorite highlite of the day I gotta say was the flight of a Vietnam Camo F-4E !! Man was that one awesome machine, this was my first time ever seeing a Full scale F-4 fly!! Good thing I didnt miss it cause the announcer mentioned that this was an extremely rare appearance of a Rhino-they dont surface very often in the US.I unfortantly did not get to the V.I.P. section in time to snap any shots of that beauty!

Were there any effects from Hurricane Ophelia??
I was at the brunswick airshow, on the way home my plane broke down and had to stop in Oceana for maintenance. Luckily they got me fixed by tuesday night. I was afraid of getting stuck there through another hurricane! When I left there was talk of a hurrevac but from your pics I guess it didnt happen.

Mike
The weather was outstanding this year, considering that Ophelia was grazing the NC coast line.We never even saw any rain at all from the storm which was really weird,I am only 2 hours from Cape Hatteras/Nags Head Area!
Glad you got to Oceana safely Mike,Oceana is an awesome Master Jet Base huh?I missed a buddy of mine with his F-18c Display,he had already flown before I arrived at the show
Any Sabre Fans?

When I was there, the F86s were flying in formation. It was REALLY cool. Flew over Fentress on the way there, looks like a good flying site. They didnt have the runway lights on though, the CODs were doing night FCLPs.
Here is a good story though... on my way out of Brunswick, Blue Angel #7 decides he wont wait for us to get off the ground so he makes a request to take off of the opposite runway and accept a tailwind on takeoff. Im sitting at the hold short finishing up my checks and here he is at about 10-15 feet off the ground maybe 100 feet in front of me with vapes all over. He goes vertical right in front of me. The problem is they just cut the damn grass at the end of the runway. It blew pieces of grass/sod all over my plane...maybe 100 feet in the air. Sure he didnt mean it, he was probably trying to give a good show, but man was I worried for a minute.
