Default Jetco for 8kg turbine

Hi hi,

Meaby you guys can help me.
A time ago when the old rookie came on the market, i thoughed, that is the model i want.
Only the first thing i wanted, was to save money for buying all the RC stuff and the turbine.
Now i have bought the RC stuff and the turbine. But now they stopt selling the old rookie and made a new one.
That old rookie was just the size i was looking for. 170cm long, and that fitted exactly in my car.
Now they have the new rookie, but that one is 25 cm longer, and i just can't putt it in my car. It is to long (measured it.)

What do i need to do? i now graupner still has the harpoon, but i don't like that colour design (orange/blue/white).
I was looking for an ARF turbine trainer, whit almost the same sizes as the old rookie has (170 length, 170cm span)
Are there other turbine trainers on the market, that are ARF and not very expensive. And could be powered whit a turbine for 8kg of thrust. I prefer for a jet, that doesn't need those tailpipes (20cm tailpipe is ok, but not those 50cm long one's). And where i can put a normal soda bottle in, as fueltank.

I have everything for the rest. Turbine, 8 DS8411, 1 PCM receiver, 2 power switches, powerbox, retracts, legs, jet wheels. Let say all the RC stuff and turbine i have, only need a nice ARF plane.

My flying style is to keep the speed up, and not go around on a slow speed.
That's why i thought about the jetco, it looks like it wants to fly fast, instead of the boomerang, which also likes to fly slow.

I think they both fly ok, fast and slow.

But the first question was, will the jetco survive on 8 Kg of thrust, and not kill it?

@enrique,

that is a possible solution. For taking a big plane, and putt it on the top of the car.
But it is something inside, that say's DON'T DO THAT.

It is just, you will have a plane that cost 5000 euro or something around that. And you putt it on top of uour car. And when you are driving, you can't see if it is safe there. It just doesn't feel safe inside the body.

The Yak 130 si possible, but i think it is not ARF, is it?
I now the jetco is also not ARF, but i can buy a second hand one, that already has flown.
So only putt in all the stuff, and ready to fly.
But is there somebody who can help me. Will it survive on 8Kg of thrust

Just out of curiosity, what is the concern about 8kg of thrust? This is less than 18 pounds force?

Is the worry that the plane will overspeed and flutter or come apart in a high G maneuver?? That has more to do with the exhaust gas velocity that the thrust.

I understand your point of view, but believe me, r/c jet planes where designed to fly, and that´s a lot more riskier than putting it on a car roof top ....

Whatever you decide, choose the plane you like more, later you figure out how you will take it to
your club.

Guys

Speaking as someone who has had both a Boomerang Intro and a Jetco I would not put an 18lb turbine in the Jetco. It is too small physically for a Jetcat P80 and tanks, it flies nicely on a Wren 44 at 12lbs dry and quite fast on a Wren 54 (I have tried them both) so it would be equally nice on a Jetcat P60. It does not have flaps and you need a bit of space to slow it down for landing, it does fly very nicely but I would not suggest it as a first model.

The Boomerang Intro is the easiest to fly trainer available, it is a good size, easy to see in the air and the straight, thick wing and flaps means it will fly very slowly and land in a short space. Nothing wrong with a Rookie, but for a first model I would always go for the Boomer which will also take a P80 without any problem if you adjust the turbine mounts.

John

the YAK130 is kitted by MB modellismo Italy...
There are a Kit version like the most kit in the world
and one version (built on request by Mb modellismo) ARF
to fit elecronics device - engine - paint ecc..

is economic but very docile and very good aerobatic perform
is good for mw54 class turbine on 80N class turbine

The engine will be 100mm in diameter, a little smaller than a P-80. But 10mm bigger than a wren MW54.

@john,

on an earlier picture you posted, you did put a 1000cc tank in it.
On that picture it looks big on the inside, but it isn't?

and the bobcat has also no flaps, still flies ok. i now it is bigger, more wing. But you think it is not smart to do?
To fly the jetco whit a 100mm turbine, and putting 2000cc (minimum) of fuel inside?

Jet builder

When I put the Wren 54 into the Jetco I put another 600cc tank in front of the 1000cc tank which gave a comfortable 7 minutes on the 54.

If you read the build thread on the Jetco you will see there is room enough for all the electronics etc. With your bigger turbine the model should weigh about 14 - 15lbs mine was 13.5lbs with the wren 54. It will probably be a bit tail heavy with the bigger turbine and need an extra battery in the nose to balance. The kit is very good value for money and excellent quality for 300 euros or so.

I still think the Jetco will be a bit hot at that weight and power. You could, of course quite easily put flaps on it . But again that is two more servos etc. and more weight.

The only thing i coudn't find, is what is the length of the jetco?
The wingspan is 150cm, but on the producers site, they didn't say the length of the plane.

Will a 2 liter cola cola (coke) bottle fit in this plane. Or is this to big in diameter?

My engine whit everything on it (ecu battery, fuel pump, etc etc) will weight 2 kilogramms (+/- 4 Lbs)
Will this make a total weight of 14 - 15 lbs?

I decided to buy the second hand jetco.
I have clean up the plane from his paint, gets a new colour in a few weeks.
But first i am going to putt everything in the plane, to see if it fits. And when it does, then everything goes out the plane and i will paint it.

Today i wanted to mount the landinggear, but this are the 402 from spring-air. But when i putt them in the plane, they where way to big.
So now i need some new smaller one's, and i was thinking of the 101 heavy duty one's. They should hold up to a plan of 10 Kg, wright?

Do you think that these spring-airs will hold up the plane.
Or do i need to look for some other retracts?
I looked for spring-air, because i can get them easy.

Also a picture of my jetco. This pictures is made by the ex-owner. It also is not red anymore, but white again

pilot error!

Hello Henk.

I remember this one. It was the one belonging to Frank Peters from Hamburg. The Jetco went down in a corn field, where the plants were 2,5 meters tall. It was impossible to find the plane. Fortunately Lars Nøhr from SimJet was kind enough to start up his private plane and fly over the corn field to help in finding the lost Jetco. Napong and I went along with Lars to help spotting the wreckage, and we saw it alomst right away. I was in contact with Frank via my cell phone and led him to the wreckage from the air. I remember this very clearly, because I almost got sick from Lars' flying[sm=stupid.gif]

Yes Stig you are right Frank Peter was the pilot.
I talked with Frank after the crash and he told me he was too far away and inverted!
But after the wreck was found he was so generous too buy us beer!!!

True. Beer will get you a long way Unfortunately Lars had to fly his plane home, so he wasn't able to get any of the beer.

Well. To get back on topic. There are other Jetco's flying with 8 kg engines. Here in DK Napong flies his Jetco with a SimJet 1200SP. It is very fast but at the same time it handles the abuse of grass field operation without any problem.

@ stig anderson,

Do you now what kind of retracts there are in that jetco.
I found the sping-air 101 HD. But also some eurokit retracts whit the aluminium mount. Not the plastic one, i heard from som e pilots, that the plastic one, doesn't survive many landings.

I need the retracts first, to make the geardoors. I need to make the geardoors first, before i build in the rest of the equipment.

Stig, I have to correct you. The jetco above only produced 5,5 kg`s thrust. We have messured it several times

It still flew quite fast with that amount of thrust.

Here is a small clip of it starting and landing: http://media.putfile.com/Jetco

Hi Jet Builder.

Sonnich may have to correct me, but I think it is the Trim Air retracts...(Correct Sonnich?)

The Eurikit retracts with the metal housing are great value for money. I have had them in several models without problems.

This Jetco uses Trim aircraft 9kg+ retracts, and Behotec aircraft grade alu struts.
