Default StringRay Pictures Flight Test Cont.

Well I have put 14 flights on my StringRay and I must say this
one flys very well.I have put about 1/8 up reflex in the elevons
and the CG at 5 3/4" from the wing meeting the fuse.I am carring
about 60 oz of fuel and I am getting 5 1/2 mins.Weight less fuel is
11 3/4 lbs. Depending on wind cond. The Speed Brake is a must or it will fly right on by.I would keep your Paint Sceame a bit bright it helps to see on dark days. The Yellow on mine shows up well in the sun. Good Luck on building your own.Well Hopefully I will have my second kit soon.
Check with Dean at Heli Hutt CA about getting Yours.

Default StringRay Flight Test cont.

Well as time goes on more and more flights on my StringRay I now have over 20 flights.
For all you builders out there working on your StringRay,I am having trouble getting it slow enough for landing. Make sure you have a good servo on the speedbrake, I am trying to come up with another speedbrake on the bottom. The plane is so clean in the air I will fly right on by and by and by........This is where you
guys that want to put a jetcat P80 on the stringray will find that there is too much residule thrust to land.
Well just thought I would pass this on.
Good Luck and keep building............Paul jpolf :tired:

Hey Paul, Ive been reading your posting's ..thank you! first off and I had a question! What about tip tank's? and maybe a belly tank, do you think that would help slow it down a bit?..cause I'd really like to use a P80! Thank's K

Default Stringray

Tip tanks might help I had not thought of that.I am thinking along the thoughts of making two speedbrakes that come down out of the fusealodge at 90 degrees to the fuse. Maybe useing a set of X-Cell helo pattels on a set of BVM's motion transfure arms.and use a aircylinder to drive them.I am going to waite till I get the new tanks being made by Jettec.
As for you Johnny H. It is hard to fly and take pict.s I have a good friend and pilot going with me tomarrow and I will let him fly and I will see if I can get a few shots of the StringRay in the air.

Thanks Paul

Hey Paul,Yeah I was thinking about tip tank's, a centerline usable fuel tank and that way you kind of "dirty" it up a bit, so i'm going to be glued to your post's! K

Paul does the airplane have twin rudders on it? I have a Roo in which I kick both rudders out and it works great for a speed brake, as I have no speed brake on the bottom. Call if you need help with the programing.

Default StringRay

Thanks Tim That's a good Idea, and yes it has twin rudders.
When I did this one I did all internal control linkage. The only thing wrong with that is you get a trade off in the amount of throw you can get doing it that way. I am building the second one and I might rethink that idea.
Hey you and tracey have a good Thanksgiving and I will call you
after the holliday.
Thanks Paul jpofl

Can anyone tell me of a dealer who would be able to ship a StingRay kit to the United Kingdom. I know I'm in for a shock with the postage charges but the price of the basic kit makes up for that.

Any help would be most welcom.

Regards,
Andy Gascoigne

I just got my landing gear from yellow, new wood package and a destruction manual. The destructions recommend a whip antenna due to the amount of carbon fiber installed. JPOFL, is this necessary?, have you had any range problems??? I personally do not like the looks of the whip antenna but if it saves my jet, I guess that it is worth it. TIA!

Default StringRay

I have not had any problems with mine. I use the rule that all my
servo wiring runs down both sides of the fuselage. I run all the Turbine wiring down the center between the fuel cells.keeping at-lest 2 1/2" clearance from any radio wirring. My RX is in the nose with the antenna in a antenna tube, runs down the left upper side of the StringRay ending up just behind the left retract unit.
I too was concerned with all the carbon in the plane. But so far
I have not had any interferance yet. And I do tend to let the plane fly some distance from me. Again the only thing I have had a challenge with is getting it slow down for landing. The last time I flew it. At that time my landing speed was about 25 to 30 MPH and it flew by me only 3 to 4 ft over the runway when it passed me.Knowing I did not have enough fuel to go around I pulled up the landing gear for a grass landing. You will not believe how far the aircraft flew with on power on.(but running) It flew over 150
yards before settling down in the grass and only slid a couple of feet. I have not found the stall speed yet. But I can say using a
Jr equipment I have had no problem with interferance.
Happy Thanksgiving to all list members.
