Maybe you doubt it.
An austrian guy flew a Balsa Bandit up to 491 km/h(305mph) with a 26lbs. engine.
This plane has a take off weight of around 14lbs a thrust of 26lbs. The wing span is 39.5 inches. GPS is very accurate. Go ahead get a GPS give it a professnial pilot so he can compare it with the flight insruments. He will get the same numbers at the GPS.

I don't see any reason to doubt it. An extremely clean airframe with A LOT of thrust should be able to hit that speed.
Regarding the use of a GPS. He might be off by a few percent plus the wind component but it would be very close. Boeing has faith in GPS. We have two in the 747-400 I fly and crossing the Atlantic along the organized tracks we split the centreline of other GPS equipped aircraft as we pass them at M .86 !

if Vmax did several numbers of flights, and all in the same or similar speed range, there is no reason to doubt it.

if have seen his plane fly in Punitz, and believe me, it was really fast (he had the 85N turbine on it). his streamlined rocket with a 140N behotec is good for 570km/h+, I am sure.

This thing is fast............i wouldnt know if it did that much or might be........I have seen a video of this one aswell they launch it from a Sling shot things it was diff for the cameraman to get clips of this.........but i Didnt get anythign coz it was in german !! the video

Dunno, guys. Reminds me of the guy who was 100% certain his Sig Wonder did 287mph. Had a cop radar it and all. Turned out it was KPH! But he was dead sure he was doing 287mph!
No doubt, the thing is fast, and I have no doubt that MEC broke 300...but this is claiming to be 50mph faster.
I would beleive it if there was a little more regulated and scientific measurement.

Wow, 350 miles per hour!
Yes, I remember the thread EasyT. I'm glad to see jet modelers are finally flying their jets well above 300 miles per hour. My next question is how do they manage to keep the model in sight? I recently watched a couple of ducted fan powered Bandits doing their thing around 170 or so and THAT was fast. There were times you could not tell which direction the model was pointed. The pilot was flying simply by 'feel' which I know is what makes a great rc pilot. So, I ask again, how the heck do you see a model at 350!?!

Just watched the 63Mb file and it looks pretty fast! Not sure you can tell it's doing 350mph mind you.
However, one thing I was wondering/worried about (and I'm not a jet pilot so I'm not sure) was when the guy has the turbine running he fiddles around in the cockpit with a pipe that looks like it's spraying fuel all over the place and back over the turbine! What is that?

Schroedm, it looked like it was smoke coming from the propane line when he removed his start gas and went to cap it before flying. This would happen all of the time with my old RAM 750Fs, if you removed the check valve that prevented it. Apparently this guy prefers to cap it off rather than use a Festo check valve.

Did you obtain a higher speed by just modifying the clamps? I see the engine is now cowled. Is this how you modified them? I'm just curious as to the technology used in the model.
The video shows the model doing 283 mph. What did you have to do to get it up to 355 mph?

Hi Guys,
We saw this model flown at the AMT Netherlands jet meeting at Porz, Germany, last year (99.9% sure it's the same one, anyway).
Not sure which turbine it had in it then, but there is NO WAY it is doing 500+ kilometres per hour, and not even 400 kmh. It is quite a fast model, although no speed-record breaker.
Bennie van de Goors pulsejet powered delta flies about 420-430 kmh max, and this model is not nearly so quick.
.........and a cheap/small GPS that accurate over such short distances, which also does not take into account the vertical plane - I don't think so!
FWIW the same GPS unit was tried by Steve Elias/David Cadman when they tried to set an official (Guiness Book approved) World Record a couple of years ago with AMT Olympus powered Bandit, and thay had some VERY high readoings with the GPS, not approved by Guiness!
In the end the only way they would approve speeds was a mean average 2-way run measured by 2 Speedmaster units (light sensitive recording) set side by side.
