Hi All

I ran my P80 in the airframe for the first time last saturday, once without the booms, tailplane and wings fitted and once with it fully assembled to check out all the systems with the engine running. After shutting down the engine after the second run I checked the tailplane underside for evidence of heat buildup and there was none, in fact it was only slightly warm and that was probably the insulative properties of balsa wood. Also, around the jet exit was cool, it only got slightly warm due to the residual heat from the tail cone after shutdown. I have had no problems with hot tailplanes with my Venom and the tail on that plane is closer to the thrust line than XL's.
Just thought I would throw in my experiences.

I had a spare speed controller, and this was easier to install compared to a servo pushing/flipping a switch. Ferrite ring on the cables, as the controller current waveform is PWM. Keep all of this well away from the Rx, beside the fuel tank.

The 10W bulbs dont run that hot (don't try 35W !). I get about 40 mins on time from a full charge, enough for 1 days flying I hope.

Yep, I'm still in Coventry. I hope to see you around LM/JMA scene starting March.
I need a test pilot..........................Oh JASON ! [sm=drowning.gif]

Been away all week burning kero with our Aussie brothers. XL has been flown and still unmarked. Found elevator very sensitive, have moved Tems battery forward to increase forward CG.This has tamed it down, to be like its Baby Brother. Great flying Jet. Turbine not performingt as it should yet. Will update when i know more.

Seanreit,
What make struts are those. Are they for 1/2" sockets in the retract units?

It's a 7/16" strut with a spacer that makes it fit in a 1/2 Robart 630 Retract unit.

I find the robart 630 setup like this is very robust for this type of application.

I've installed similarly probably 10 times in the last 4 years all with good results.

Paul,
Big is better, it just eats up more sky, and fuel, it's a buzz.

Paul,
The XL flying at half throttle is approx the same speed as the Baby at full power. It's quite quite deceptive to how quick it gets around the sky. still running a low rpm on PST 1300R, not as friendly as the PST600R,but we're getting on to it.

Grant,

Congrats on the maiden! She looks great, the looks of the Boomerang XL have really grown on me,right at first they weren't all that appealing to me but now they look outstanding!!I got one on the way(the same scheme as yours)I cant wait to get her flying! Sure is a bargain at 1955.00 US for the combo & shipped.Great deal for such a large jet!

Mine will be powered by a new Artes Super Eagle (30 lbs)I was going to power mine with a AMT Peggy SP that I have laying around but in talking to a couple others it would add about 2 more lbs between turbine weight & additional fuel capacity. And I love the Rhino that I have in my Kingcat so I think I'd be far happier with the Super Eagle in my XL.I'm truely sold on the Artes line!I will using a 3.75 liter glowfuel bottle as my fuel tank after a bit of modification to the former area.

I have a question in regards to the Boom attachment to the wings,do the Booms on the XL attach in the same manner as the Boomerang Intro does?Just curious about this since my XL hasn't arrived just yet. Also what servos are you guys using on the rudders & flaps?I am using a pair of JR 8611's on the Elevators and a pair of Futaba 9252 digi's on the Ailerons (all of which I already had in my jet stock in my garage)Will a 50 oz. Dubro fuel tank fit in the XL as my Smoke tank or would I need to lean towards a 40 oz.??

thanks,Steve
