Default Rossi R-8 Plugs for Turbines

Guys,

Where do you get the R-8 Plugs? Are they readily available? What kind of prices are they going for? I have found these plugs to be the best even though I have used the MC-9 etc.

Thanks - Adil

Ouch, an OS "F" is $8 a pop! I've replaced the plug in my P-80 5 or 6 times now, including of course the original. The last two plugs lasted only 2 or 3 starts (no changes from factory settings). I'd hate to do that a $8 each. I've been experimenting with a $2 Tower Hobbies glow plug to see how long it lasts...

Default R-8

Wow Bob,

2-3 flight seem too low! I have had a R-8 (Rossi) in my P-80 for the last 40 flights and still no sign of letting up. I think, I'll still keep using the R-8's - Ive had good luck with them and still have a LARGE stock. I also have a few R-5's and R-6's plus some of the Novarossi which is the best made and toughest looking of all the plugs I've ever seen. I'm just curious as to the availability and prices of the Rossi R-8 because I don't want to keep giving them away at rallies if I can't replace them.

Thanks - Adil

Adil,

Call AMT. That's where I purchased mine---I think they are $5 each.

Guy's Graupner supplied JetCat all have OS A3 plugs, I'm not aware of OS F as Mick says.
I've two years on the same A3 plug in my HS.
I have found that the OS plug doesn't glow along the complete length of removed element. MY PHT-3 didn't always start on the button until fitting a cheap FirePower F6 plug. Now it's instant each time set at 2.1v

Default Plugs

You might try Bob Wilcox or the JetCat support forum on the plug issue. I blew about 5 plugs over 3 weeks on my P-80 last summer. I asked Bob about it at Fresno Jets and he said he could fix it with a minor software update to Ver 4 of the ECU. He was going to do the update the next day but I couldn't stay. Since then the problem hasn't returned and I haven't needed to send the ECU in. The problem apparently doesn't crop up much so you don't hear about it and only us lucky guys see it occasionally. Based on that, I don't think changing plug types will fix it.

PS: I use MC-9's. $2.96 at Sheldon's in San Jose.

I have two OS #8 (the plug I use in all my IC engines) in my Wren 54, there are over 70 starts and 6 hours run time and no burnt plug yet.

The #8 is a heavy duty plug, only one that lasts in my helis too. Thats why I used it. Just pulled the coil out a bit.

Default R-8 plug

The R-8 is the ultimate plug for any turbine, very durable. If you need to replace the factory plug or even the R-8 with another brand, pull the plug out and hook it up to the driver wire, ground the plug against the turbine case and LOOK at the glow while you are adjusting it thru the gsu.

Default Turbine Plugs

Adil:

I know you were asking where to get R-8's. Another source might be Camillo down at Florida Graupner-Modellbau.com. He had many of them on his table at FJ 2002.

I stocked up on McCoy MC-9 D/F plugs back in my D/F days. I ordered a whole sheet of them ( I think about 25 of them) a few years ago and have used nothing but them in my O.S. Max .91, BVM .91 & .96, as well as in my JetCat turbines and AMT turbines. I get around 50-60 runs of my JetCats with the voltage set at 2.05v.
I have never had a problem with them.

Last time I checked, Tower was stocking them.

Default R-8

We have the R-8s in stock at $5.95 + shipping.

I can't speak regarding the other engines, but we have found they are still the best for RAMs.

I just purchased Rossi #8 plugs from TGA. If you bought 10 or more they were $4.95 ea. They said they had about 100 of them left.
