C-5 Crash at Dover
Hey all, After just flying through dover yesterday, it was pretty weird getting phone calls from friends and family asking if i was ok this morning.. Nobody knows what caused it ,but please say a prayer for the crews aboard. Serious injuries were reported, no fatalities yet. The left wing, tail and Flight deck were completely seperated from the fuse. Nick

INteresting pattern across the left wing backward from the outboard engine, looks like either there was a fire that was extinquished or somthing let go there and spewed back across the wing. Also looks like the wheels were down but he was short at the runway. Defintely looks surviveable, lets hope everybody got out OK.

RE: C-5 Crash at Dover
CNN is saying 17 transported to hospitals. 19 on board. Also said they were IFE for #2 flameout, which would make the oil streaks make sense. Trying to return to Dover. Probably hyd problems too, but that really should not have been a major problem. Flight control malfunction maybe, could have lost flaps on that side? Anyway, hope everyone will make it. I have flown on a bunch on C-5's, and really don't agree with the major problem deal. Most problems I saw were fairly minor. My 2 cents. Bob

That makes sense as to the streaks on the left wing. Fox is reporting 17 on board, 10 taken to local hospital, some walked away after being treated at the ambulance, no confirmed fatalities. Looks like there are several emergency slides deployed on the side of the airframe, so someone must have been able to get those opened.

it was 17 total on the crew, 4 walked into the hospital alone. It was an ANG unit, dont know which one. But the C-5s are actually not that bad on reliability, gear and engines are the big players. Ayways, 17 did NOT die.

RE: C-5 Crash at Dover
hey guys, don`t start rumors/watch the speculation...no cause yet...crew was a dover reserve crew(709th)...17 total on board, all alive, 11 already released...was a mod airplane, had some reps(tech type) from lockheed on board...investigation underway. today was not their time. if you look at pics released, everything worked(emergency equip), good job life support! say a prayer for those still in hospital.

Gun, it was an AMP MOD or an Engine Mod? Unbelievable! I knew that they were going to have problems with them. Anyways, i hate the news, 17 fatalities, gimme a break. By the way gun, your jets out there are horrible. I have had no luck on all occasions trying to get from downrange to home on them. 3 right bleed duct hots on my last trip with 700041, and an augmentation system that decided to deflect the rudder at cruise, BY ITSELF! Scared the crap outta me. Anyways, take care man, fly straight. Nick

Pantherflyr, can you or anyone else find out what C-5B it was?
I used to work for Lockheed Georgia on C-5B Production Support, Stress, center fuselage. I think it was on ship 81 that I had a HUGE patch on one of the fuselage main frames (station 1106 sticks in my mind but its been > 20 years) where some shop floor chimpanzee drilled lots of holes in the wrong places. It looks about where that fuselage split open.

A c-5 can climb on 3, all of our performance data (told) is based on 3 engines lost after go speed. Gun, were the engines looked like tf-39s, not the new motors, were you saying they were modded because of the ht-90 tcto? They dont look like the new motors.
AMP! eeeeeeech, im scared of the first time i have to fly on one of them.
I will try to find the tail number, when they find the tail......Nick

I think there is only one C-5 with the newer GE engines and it is still in Marietta. Read the article the other day on LM"s internal website.
Hey panther, did you ever fly to TJPS? That was my home airport. Only C-150's and 172's, so you could imagine how surprised I was when I taxied out one day and there were two C-5's and a couple of C-141'a parked on my taxiway one day. That was 4 years ago and they would fly in every day, prior to shutdown of Rosey Roads.
