Default BVM 82? Did they make one?

I was wondering if anyone knows if BVM ever made a .82 ducted fan engine. There is a shop near my house that has one for sale at a very good price with fan and pipe included. I was thinking of getting into ducted fans and thought $500 is a good deal. But from everything I have heard and read I have never heard of a 82 ducted fan from BVM. Just wondering if any experienced modelers could shed some info on this subject.

It's been a while since these were made so my memory might be rusty.....

There was an engine called the KBV 82. Parts were made by K&B. the engines were assembled at BVM. The quality and fit of the K&B parts were not always up to BV's standards so the K&B/BVM venture parted ways. Not to say that these are not good engines because they are very good. Since all of the engines were hand fit and checked to the N'th degree, they all ran very well. When BVM went to another scource for engines (Nelson) the "new" engine became the BVM 81 although I believe that the actual displacement wasn't changed from the 82.

It's my opinion that the $500 price tag is too steep. That engine is not made anymore and I believe that replacement parts at BVM are kind of low although some parts are still available. That entire package new didn't cost much more than that at BVM when they were available.

I took a really good look at the engine and could not find a stamp anywhere on the engine. The engine looks and smells brand new , and is attached to the fan unit. I told the guy to call me when he finds the box and paperwork that came with engine. He says he paid about $900 direct from BVM. I think its a 91 BVM from the looks of it and from what I have seen on the web. I will look into this further, dont want to pass up on this if it is a newer 91 frojm BVM.

If it is a 91 then it is definitely worth the money. Just be sure that it IS a 91. I thought that the engines were stamped on the mounting lug or on the side of the engine. Remember---There is a 91 R (Race) and an 91 S (Sport).

I agree $500.00 is to steep , you can find better deals on 91's and 96's and they are still made. I would take a pass on that one. Also I have personally ran all the different engines BV has made and if I had to pick just one it would have to be the 91 race or 91R engine. Awesome idle and transition.Provided you don't run it lean it will last a LONG time. Look for these on the jets for sale area as I see them often.

Default R vs S

Pete
I beleive the R engine has one dot on the flange of the cylinder sleeve. The S engine has two dots on the flange. This can be found in the gap between the head and the crankcase. I think it is on the left rear side???

Correct me if i am wrong here guys!

Default KBV .82

I have two. One with about 250 flights on it. Superb Idle great handeling. Nice engine. I paid $400 for the same setup at Superman 2 years ago. I would think it is really about a $350-$400 if truely NIB.

This one is $500 for engine, fan unit, and pipe ............but not new in box. I think the guy said he never ran the engine so it would be new. I could not find a stamp anywhere on the engine. Of course the engine is already mounted on the fan unit. Can you see a stamp when the engine is mounted?

My first BVM engine was a BVM .82. It was K&B sold by BVM . It had a disk rotary valve. The newer BVM .81 was a drum rotor.
Both went very well.

Default KBV .82

South bay.
I guess before you buy this thing. May I ask what are you planning on putting this in?
I am putting mine in a JHH Kfir (mirage)
It should be simple enough to pop the back door off and look to see if it is a rotary or drum valve.

I was looking at a JHH F-4 that I saw at my LHS. Should give it plenty of power.
