Flying Jets in Detroit
Can anyone recommend a R/C club in Detroit that fly's Jets? I understand there's a meet once a year at the Grosse Isle Airport. Do those people fly regularly there? Are they an actual club?
I'm familiar with most of the flying clubs like RCCD, Midwest, Wolverines, etc. But all are mostly for planes and all have grass fields runways.
I guess what I'm really asking is:
Is there a serious R/C Jet Club in the Detroit Area?
Thanks,
Tom

Flyimg Pilgrims
Tom,
There are about a dozen of us in the Flying Pilgrims that fly jets. Our field has a 400' paved runway, and is just west of Canton.
The Michigan Jets meet is once a year. We've been trying to get the Grosse Ille Airport to allow us to fly there on a regular basis, but so far that hasn't happened. Some of the guys with larger jets occasionally go to a private airport in Sandusky Mi. to fly.

Meetings
Meetings are the 4th Thursday of the month at the Wayne Public Library, on the corner of Michigan Ave. and Wayne Rd. in Wayne, Mi. Too bad, you just missed our annual Christmas Pizza Party on Thursday. The next meeting will be Jan. 23 at 7:00 pm. That should be posted on our web site in a few weeks.
Annual membership is $35, after a $100 initiation fee. Have you been flying jets or are you just getting into it?

Flying Jets in Detroit
Joe, Thanks for the info. I'll sure try to be there at the next meeting.
I fly choppers with the michiganwhirlybirds mostly. I also fly planes with the Michigan Wolverines now and then (up past New Haven). I bought a used Byron F16 about a year ago with an OS77, Dynamax fan, retracts, and with some junk servos in it. It's a little beat-up. The guy I bought it from used it as a trainer and was flying from a grass field someplace in OH. I was planning on using this as a trainer jet. It looks good from a distance, but up close you can see it's had it's share of rough landings.....
I also just order a TGA F15 and the Pre-fab Interceptor kit.

Tom Michigan Jets will be July 17-20 2003. If you e-mail your number, I will contact you off line. The 17th is the setup day, we allow flying all day after the setup. This year we will have a BBQ Sat. night. at the field or one of the hangars.
