John, Thanks for the offer. I'll give you a call when its ready!

Kevin, This is a very large airframe without inlet ducting. The full scale is no speed demon, so I really think you'd need at least 30lbs to fly it properly. I'm using a 36lb Rhino

Duk, I've got 2 - 20 oz tanks onboard, which should be plenty, but there's lots of room for more if I need it.

How did this thread turn into me being Tam's whipping boy? Kenny likes to talk alot of smack.....oh well, at least he's getting some enjoyment out of this hobby.........he sure isnt doing much flying, so let his motor mouth run.

Malcom, Yep its been a while. I would love to take some of your stuff for a whirl....but your transmitter's broken (got the throttle stick on the wrong side). Hope all is well, and we will hook up soon. If Dave gives me the honors for the maiden, I will be sure to give you a full report.

Dave, got your message..It peaked at 115 today, and my bulldozer doesnt have A/C. I was out of my mind with heatstroke, I will try to call you in the morning.
Dam that things got alot of room in it! When she gonna be ready?

Later,
Dave

Hi!

Looks very nice. Mine is nearly ready for painting. We did soem modifications. Cut the two front doors for nice access to rx-compartment and cut the canopy frame into three parts for future pneumatic canopy-opening. And well, lights are a must on that bird. Next are the fuel-cells. We will do some homebrew fiberglass-cells.

I will paint it in the AETE demo-scheme

David,

Great minds think alike! I put the receiver switch, battery charge sockets, and air valves in the left side door. Thought about putting fuel and smoke feed into the right door, but haven't as of yet.

Are you going to install speedbrakes in yours? I thought about separating the canopy but decided to wait untill a cockpit kit is available.

I really like the AETE scheme too! I have already done an F-18 in that scheme, so I decided to stick with the Snowbirds this time.

Hi!

Well, that F-18 looks sweet too. The three prototypes in germany and switzerland are painted in the snowbirds scheme, so I thought something different would be nice. Found this picture on AETe's webside. I think I need to join a jet-meeting on the other side of the big lake . We didn't fit the speedbrakes, because there is a former under the brakes. And it already needs a handfull noseweight to ballance. I think I will get the full cockpit the next couple of weeks. I saw it at the german jet masters and it does look very good.

Good choice,

Just in case you were wondering what the model would look like in the AETE colors.....!

Hi Dave!

Thank you for the pics. I am really looking forward to flying that sucker.

@ Steve: That is exactly what I thought it should look like, once it's finished . The strong coke-bottles are still available in germany. I just threw them in the corner, because I want to make conformal fuel-cells to carry more fuel. I think a P-120 is not enough power. I saw it flying with a 160 and that was just o.k... But that means 3,0 litre is not enough, and I don't want to miss the smoker

Here are some pictures of the mods we made. My thanks go to MArtin Foster from switzerland who send us drawings, pictures and who was very helpfull with details and great ideas during the build. I recieved my manual yesterday and I am almost ready for painting

Dave,

Beautiful man!! That's gonna look great! Beautiful workmanship!!

I used 3 of the 1.5 litre coke bottles for fuel giving total 4.5, which should be plenty. I then inset 2- 20 oz round tanks in the former below the main tanks. One each side of center. You'll have to relieve the formers a bit, but they fit nice.

With all the work you've done on the front, come on, you gotta finish the tail area by installing the speedbrakes! The box that contains the speedbrake can be bonded to the area cut out of the former so no strength is lost, and they look *****in!

Hi Dave!

I wnat to do that, but my Dad said no, because that adds a lot of weight. Due to the long tail and the turbine-position far back, the speedbrakes will add a total of 1-2 lbs I guess. But maybe I can convince him . I just ordered the landinglights for the wing. the one for the nose, anti-collision-lights and positionlights are already here. I am using a Turbo-Didi tailpipe with integrated smoke-nozzle, so there is not a lot left that is missing...

Great looking paint job, I hope the bottom of the wing is done in Red with Goose done in White. I flew a full scale Micco 260 with the Snowbirds paint job, I was always asked for flyby's at airport towers all over the country, the controllers wanted to see the Goose. Good luke with the Tudor.

David,

Could you post a picture of the tailpipe? Never heard of one with an integrated smoke-nozzle. I'm curious to see what it looks like. I'm using the Tam system which works great.

Joe, The plane should be done this weekend, ready for flight next weekend depending on the weather. I'm not for standing anywhere near a flightline when the temp is 90+ degrees at the Basin or 100+ at Buttonwillow! I'd really like to go to Buttonwillow so I could also put a few more flights on the big twin F-18. I'll let you know mid week.

David

PS: I put you and Lou's CA Jets photos on a disk. I'll give it to you next time I see you.

All rigth Dave!

Here we go: Double-walled tailpipe with bellmouth. There is a 4mm Festo-Fitting on a stainless tube that runs down the pipe and turns 90° at the end of the pipe. The point with this system is, that there is no chance that smoke-fluid collects in the long pipe. i had that with my Strikemaster and after throttleing up I had a 2m flame at the end of the fuselage. Lucky that there was minor damage, but could have been worse. Tams system is for sure the best smoke-system I have ever seen, I just don't like it with the long tailpipes anymore .

And for those who are interested: Two pictures of the additional wood-work on the front. You will need some lead in the nose, so why not make life easier? The UP-cylinders attach to the plywood-sidewalls. That gives the nose additional strength and keeps all the stones and grass and things like that out of the fuselage.... Bummer that you need that whole on the lefthand side for the servo. It would be possible to shorten the attachment, but we are not into metalwork. I just laminated a pouch for the servo-opening. I will post pictures tomorrow if someone is intersted.....

David, Very Nice! I just put extra batteries up front so I can fly all day without recharging.

Since I didn't get an instruction manual with mine I don't have the recommended surface throws. I'm doing final setup, so would you post or PM me the measurements, please. I understand the cg is the wing tube, is that what your info shows?

Hi Dave!

You are right, c/g is in the center of the wingtube.

control-throws as per manual:

elevator: 20mm up (4/5") 10mm down (2/5")

aileron: 20mm up (4/5") 10mm down (2/5")

rudder: 30mm left/right (1 1/5")

flaps: 45° measureing on the bottom surface

You better check if my conversion from millimeter to inch is right. Good luck for your maiden.

Hi folks!

As most of us are waiting to hear good news from Dave's maiden, I thought some of you might be interested in some pictures of the Tutor. We made some covers for the wheel, the steering-servo and the nose-gear. I never liked all the grass and dirt inside my Strikemaster. To prevent that, we covered almost every opening in the front. To make sure that the servos get enough power from the two batteries, I use a PMS plus from www.engelmt.de. No wires between interface and rx, it fits nicely on JR 10 channel recievers.
