Default Gear Failsafe System - Tamjets

Ok, someone please explain this product to me? Is this device going to try and lower my gear if my radio goes into Fail Safe mode? Or is this incase my normal method of lowering my gear doesn't work? If the later I don't understand...I mean most of the no gear down problems are caused by air and line problems. How is this $89.00 device going to help me?

thanks,

JR

From what I understand....(I got my info in Tamglish and my translator is inop) the device will lower the gear when the air pressure pressure drops to a pre-set level. The idea is that this will avoid a gear up landing due to a slow leak. I believe that the trip pressure can be set by the user............

JR,
Let me try to explain in Tamlish.
Perhap Gordon, Bob or Dave can correct it for me.

This device was design to monitor your air pressure.
Once you pre-set the pressure you want to drop the gear. When the air pressure drop at the pressure you set. It automatic drive the servo to gear down position to drop the gear before you completely lost the air.
The only time this device will not work if the airline go to the valve came off. Than you have no air at all to put down the gear.
We had test this device for over 5 months now on all our demo plane. It proven to be bullet proof system. We lost air few time and this system save the day.
Another nice feature is prevent you by accident when turn on the RX with TX at gear up position. This feature disable the servo to response to your TX until you put gear swicth down positon before it gain control.

This products is not instock yet.
We still waiting for the manufactory to finish the board assembly.
Today it done. We will pick up tonight and start to assembly and program for early august delivery.

Brg,
Tam

Tam,

Thanks for the information. I now can see a benefit for using such a device.

Cool but here's the $64K question: I'm running a gear cycler (Jomar Products) to command two separate servos to cycle my gear and doors. I'm assuming this device will drive the cycler to lower the gear mode . . . ?

Mike,
You would plug the lead from the cycler into the Tams device, then Tams into the rx. The cycler will act the same when it gets the signal from Tams device. I am onboard with this unit sign me up for a few of them !! V..

Joe babe,
I think is should be no problem.
But I'll tested just to be sure.
My friend is doing the software for me.
So if doesn't work. I could have modify it easy.
Good things to have friend doing this kind of works few miles away.

For once I dont believe I need to translate Tamglish for everyone, the good thing about you going to China is that you Must practice your English!!

Like Tam said, the units we have been testing in our demo planes have been working flawlessly. Unfortunately the only way you can really test this system in the air is to have an air leak. Fortunately, the very hot weather and some cheap soft air tubing formed some nice slow leaks in our F-16. On the 3rd flight, I was coming down out of a dive lining up for a low pass, and the gear came down. It kinda freaked me out at first because I always set my fail safe for gear down, and then Tam yelled
"Oh, gee fay safte work goo" (translation: Ah, our Gear fail safe has detected a leak and is working quite nicely)
Sure enough, when we landed there was no air left in the system and the belly of the plane was saved. Our testing includes flying in normal flight condidtions to make sure that the software is solid enough to work properly flight after flight without an air leak. Then we simulate both slow and fast air leaks (fast meaning have the pressure dump rapidly once the gear is retracted) and fly around normally. Every flight, no matter what condition, we have always landed with the gear down and locked.
You guy's do have valid questions about the electronic sequencer, and I will be testing this in my new Jolly Rogers Super Hornet. I will keep you posted on the results.
Take care,
Dave

We are shipping out the gear failsafe device today.
I also tested with electronic gear door sequencer and Jetronic dual action valve.
Everything is working properly.

I keep asking Tam to let me write the instructions, but he says "I rike intruction to ben in Tamglish, Dat way cutoma know I work on it myselp"!
Its the personal touch that you can always count on from TamJets. If Tam was ever to sell the company, the contract would include that Tamglish must be spoken at all times.

Dave,
I'll let you write the manual.
Everyone will doing it wrong. You can not program a dawn things. Every single plane you fly. Daddy set up for you.
Dave reading and writing skill is good.
But his ability skill is about 2 year old. This is so true. Ask him if he can program the gear failsafe. I teach him fill time already. But still asking me how to do it.
