Hi Matt

I WILL be making my own...I have a vacuum former and the clear plastic, it won't take much work at all, just a little time.

I see what you did with yours,NICE JOB!!

I'd just like mine to have a little more flow to it rather that straight angles[sm=regular_smile.gif]

Morris Hobbies is about 4 miles from my house and he has a lot of cool stuff so I gues you can say Morris Hobbies is in my back yard LOL.

James,

Looks like Morris is in your back yard. I didn't see the pipe listed on their website.

bugger - disaster strikes

just taken the plane out into the garden to do the 3rd and 4th tanks of running the engine in, and it wouldnt go !!

1st and 2nd tanks were fine no problems

put some fuel down the carb barrel and she fired ok but then died, check the fuel feed and noticed no fuel coming up the pipe, at first thought this may be because the tank is mounted with the stopper forward!!

then tried to pump the fuel back out the tank with my electric fuel pump - and it just sucked air

brought inside and managed to empty of fuel by turning upside down and sucking out the exhaust return

couldnt get the tank out because it was now stuck in place after being pressure tested, but managed to undo the screw and wiggle the bung out, anyway on removing the bung found that the pipe in the tank on the dongle had split at the tank end down the pipe about an inch and a half

possibly caused by a sharpe edge on one of the tank pipes and the engine vibration, so it might be worth checking the ends of the pipes and filing donw a bit if rough

still all back together now and ready

I used a Hitec HS-125MG but there is room for a slightly larger servo if you feel the need for more torque. Test flight will be this Saturday so I don't have an idea how it will handle the load yet. I will post a report afterwards.

Good looking pipe setup but a little hard to stomach at $130 plus $8 shipping. That's only $8 less than what I paid for a brand new OS .55AX. [sm=71_71.gif]

Yeah, mine split wide open when I was trying to slip it over the barb on the clunk. I swapped it out for good ol Dubro fuel line.

Of interest, I weighed mine today......ready to fly - except that the Rx battery was not installed - 6.20 lbs, so say just under 6.5 lbs with the battery...that is looking pretty good!!

I really like the way you trimed your bobcat.

I especially like the LG. But why didn't you use the matching Nose Gear?

How you guys think the bobcat would go with a GMS 75.. it has decently more power then the .61 OS and only $99?

I have been told that the GMS is basically the same engine as Tower Hobbies (made by the same company).

I used the Tower Hobbies .75 and it works very well. Check the links for more info.

I too mounted a Tower .75 on my Bobcat, plenty of power. I own several Tower engines and several GMS engines and they are indeed made by the same manufacturer

Top speed I've got so far with APC 11X7 is 110 mph on the radar gun. I tried a Zinger 11X8 prop and topped out at 79 mph
I have 11X8 Graupner prop on order,.will see what it does.. My friend Serge is running an O.S. .61 on his Bobcat with an APC 11X7 and I am able to pull away from him with my Tower .75.

I don't know what the speed is but you can see from the video that the Tower .75 with the 12x6 moves out.

CRASH,

11x8 is too much prop for that .75 Try a 10X8 APC should be in stock at a good LHS.

As promised....some solutions to route the exhaust to the back of the bobcat:
-The OS 5o comes with a 90 degree adapter, so the muffler can be mounted up and down and the exhaust outlet can be rotated to the rear of the model
-Build a mousse can muffler (which I mentioned on my previous post
-Use a header from an RC monster truck to divert the exhaust. This is route I went. I found an old Traxxas header in a parts bin, cut off the mount and slid the back end over the stock OS muffler, and JB welded in place..easy to do, and looks great IMHO.... HPI also makes a nice curved header which can be adapted...check out the car parts aisle of you local hobby store.....

12X6 to 13X6 is recommended prop size for that engine... it should handle 11X8 no problem.

Guys
If keeping the plane clean is what you want, then never let the exhaust hit the prop!
The photo shows the optimum setup for the muffler to divert the exhaust flying at WOT.
Exhaust is blown past the booms and airflow over the wings does the rest.

Btw the engine will never know the direction the exhaust exits.

I tried it that way, but it still made a mess on my wing. I tried this and it works great.

That is not necessarily true, on my particular set up the increase in backpressure from the on-comming air over the wing makes the fuel system go rich. This has been tested, witnessed and validated. There is very little deflection on the exhaust tube on the stock tower muffler which makes the use of an exhaust deflector or other fix mandatory.

Wow I must just be luckiest person in the rc community!
With this kind of luck I bet I could build my own turbine. (And get it AMA approved)

I've got a dubro extension of between my engine and muffler, which with my fancy deflector puts the exhaust core just outside the prop arc.....As soon as it warms up another 30 or 40 degrees, I'll fire it up and see how much mess it makes, or hopefully, doesn't make..........
