What did you use for the hook in the front of the canopy? I can't tell from the picture. Are you going to frame the canopy with ply?

Thanks.

Hal - It is a BVM canopy hook and it's held in place with the 2 screws and glue. It's actually quite solid and I'm not sure at this point if I'm going to complete the framing around to the front. If I do I'll use a thin strip of carbon fiber instead of the wood. I'll fill in between the canopy and the rear wood strips with silicon glue. A one peice frame would be nice but lots of compound curves to deal with.

SORRY THE RUNWAY WAS ASPHALT.
Today Wednesday the 23rd about 10am SHE FLEW, and it was great, the first flight i let her go down the runway 100-ma by 200 feet before i pulled back on the stick just to make sure i had good ground speed, because after yesterday i was bound and determined, DO OR DIE, she rotated about 45 degrees after lift off and rose to about 100 feet, the plane seems very stable, i had a strong cross wind and the plane seemed to handle it just fine, the rolls were tight (ON LOW RATE) inverted flight was just as stable with very little down elevator. sorry no knife edge today.
and my second flight was the same as the first, except i richened the motor a little bit much and after about 6 minuets she ran out of fuel. (THE DREADED DEAD STICK) at this point the wind was dead calm and i pointed the nose to the ground and brought her around for the approach Lucky i wasn't far of my line up to land, she floated a little (and i stress a little) but it did float.

SO TO SUM IT ALL UP 6.9IN CG IS WRONG MY CG IS AT 9IN AND FOR (ME) IT SEEMS GOOD AND MA BY A GOOD PLACE FOR THE REST OF YOU TO START.

MAIDEN FLIGHT'S WERE AWESOME, SHE LOOKS GREAT ON THE LOW FLY-BY, THE YS-45 WILL FLY HER, I'M AT ABOUT 4,500-FEET SO YOU GUYS AT MUCH LOWER ALTITUDE'S WILL DO AWESOME WITH THAT MOTOR OR EVEN THE 61's+

PLANE SPECS:

TOTAL WEIGHT IS 7.75LB
CG IS AT 9.IN
MOTOR IS A YS-45 AND TUNED PIPE WITH 10X7 PROP

I WISH YOU ALL THE SAME LUCK, THIS WILL BE A GERAT LITTLE PROP JET

Sweet, at least you came home with it.

Here is pic of where the cg prob. should be. All depends on % and what you like. I would start around 9 and work your way from there.

I find humor in your picture having a disclaimer stating, "These numbers are approx. and not exact," and measurements rounded to a hundredth of an inch. Sounds pretty damn exact to me.

Well, that is true. I actually meant the exact location. I did this in CAD today and did not bother changing the dim. text to one place. It is funny now that you mention it. I should have just rounded things off. my bad.... hehhe

Well, hopefully people will read this post and check correct there CG before any possible mishaps.

topper: thanks for sharing this flight experience. i have the 7.5 k&b engine on mine and plan on using a 10x8 prop. i will have to take off on a grass runway tho. since you are the most experinced pilot now what is you opinion on this bird flying off grass?

JOHNNYJET: it's kinda funny you ask about my throws, i hardly looked at the book so i don't know, i have three kits from nitro planes and there instruction book's are so bland i found there book is good for motor distance and CG other then that it's all the same insert PART-A into PART-B and glue your hinges.
but my throws are:

elevator (LOW)3/4... (HIGH) ALL I CAN GET)
rudder (LOW) 3/4..... "
ailerons (LOW) 3/4... "

KNOWCRASH: I'm sorry but i'v only been flying for about 5 years and have yet to fly off grass, so i can't answer that question, but i feel my heavy bird dose need some good ground speed for guaranteed lift.

by the way the fus is not fuel proof the paint will run WITH 15%

Knowcrash, it all depends on what you want this pusher jet to do. Seeing as you are familiar with grass, and know that it typ. takes larger wheels then on pavement then you have the first part down.

If you are wanting top speed, then you will want your k&b to rev higher then it will with a 10x8 prop. If you are not looking for speed, but want great verticle I would think a 10x6 pusher would suit you good. It will have a lot more thrust then the 10x8 (which you will prob. want for grass) and it will have very good verticle push to it. I also fly a shrike (similar to this but about 1.5lbs lighter) and with a 10x6, it keeps the speed down a little (still hauls butt) but it has unlimited verticle. If you are looking for speed, I would look for a 10x7 pusher. the ultimate would prob. be a 9x8, but good luck finding one. The k&b 7.5 likes to turn and I assume it would turn the 10x6 great, give you good speed and lots of thrust. this is just my opinion from flying these type of airplanes and the k&b 7.5.

Hope this helps some.

I figured that clear coat (what little there is) was not fuel proof. Crap. Well, I guess I will wet sand it and shoot a good clear on it.

Thanks for the tip topper

noahb: sounds great. i bought 3 10" pusher props. 10x6, 10x7 and 10x8. makes sense to start with 6 pitch and if i have anything left to put it on i will try one of the others.

Thanks for the report Topper. Anyone doing retract mod please share your experience. I'm waiting for next shipment to arrive and get one. Norman at Raidentech emailed me that they hope to get the bigger Keecat by next spring.

Has anyone come up with a motor mount for a turbine installation yet?

Thanks.
