Default BVM Retracts Repair

My BVM Aggressor had a mishap over the weekend. I thought I got away with not breaking anything major but upon closer examination the nose strut block is cracked. The question is how to get the brass pins out to replace the strut block. Should I get the aluminum nose block or the CF? I think the steering tube is bent too since is binding in the strut block. By the way these are the old CF retracts.

I'm brilliant!!!! Well I should have thought of it sooner. A three inch piece of music wire and a hammer. Done. Now I just need to order the Strut block and steerer tube.

Is this what you are looking for? You can have it if you want.

Also, not all of these are the same, the drilled hole that the actuator arm fits into is in different locations and that sets the retract angle.

All,
BVM still has the parts necessary to support the older landing gears.
I just bought a few parts last week myself.

The part that Matt is offering you is P/N "5255 Nose".

Usually, the carbon fiber frame is what gets broken. It's P/N is 5250.
The steering tube is P/N 5248

There is no carbon fiber strut block available.

When you reassemble it, remember that the short brass pivot pin goes on the left hand side of the unit. (Same side as the steering arm).

If you send bent or broken landing gear units to BVM, they will be repaired and returned to you in new condition.

I thought it was the "Sport CF Strut Block Assembly - Nose #5249"? From the website 5255 is the aluminum version. Maybe I'm wrong. One thing BVM could work on is adding more pictures to their website. Also, adding lists of parts they they still support from their old jets and which parts go where. They seem to have tons of spares that they don't even list. Other than that I have no complaints about BVM quality or service. From my one short flight, other than the landing, I'm hooked. I also don't understand why DF is dying so fast. The BVM 91 in the Aggressor is great. Lots of power, speed and it starts right up and runs fine with little adjustment. Turbines must be great!

Hi Ron,

Part is in the mail.

Whatever you do hold onto that Aggressor!

I think these DF are making a comeback, either electric or nitro. Anyone can fly a turbine now, it takes a special modeler to fly a DF ;-)

If you are a JETCAT rep you better keep your voice down when you talk up DF. I plan to keep DF alive for awhile I have a BVM Maverick, an F-86, and a JMP Starfire NIB with all the accessories, and CJM HE162 all built up almost ready to go. One day I may get them all flying. The F-86 and the Starfire may go turbine if I can stop buying kits and save a few bucks.

Ron,
The #5249 is no longer available, and has been superceded by the alternate and interchangeable P/N 5255.

Hang onto that Agressor....when the new electric fan system is released, you will find that the entire electric power package will be a "Drop in" replacement for the ducted fan setup.

This means that all of the older fan powered BVM jets will have new value, and a new lease on life.

BV is showing it off and flying it at Superman.

From the intel that I have gleaned, the electric production version has as much power as the .91 Vio Jet.

I heard the same thing Harley about 4.7 hp peak, usable flight time of about 5.5 minutes.

Matt,
I got my info from Uncle Bob hisself. I think your numbers are spot on. You can have a ton of fun in 5.5 minutes.

The electric Vio Fan will be just the ticket for some of the un-jet-friendly fields around here and there. No chance of crashes starting a fuel fire.
The speeds will be comparable to to the ducted fans, and many of the smaller turbine airplanes too.

When you make the investment for the entire power package, most guys will have some sticker shock, but remember one thing....you are buying a few seasons supply of fuel up front.

Say goodbye to lean runs, blown plugs, header seals, and the clean up associated with ducted fans.
Recharge, and fly.
Say goodbye to kerosene and turbine oil, fires and such, just recharge and fly.
No CG change with fuel burn.

I'm oversimplifying it for sure, but it does sound kinda attractive.

Gotta have some shortcomings, but I don't know what they are, unless the constant weight could be called a problem.

(But, I do love the smell of jet fuel in the morning).

Ten years later I'm faced with the same thing and wondering how does wire and a hammer get these bushing out????

The brass pins are pressed in but are hollow. Put the wire through to the other side and knock the pin out. Fill it over and repeat.

Mine are different I guess. Only one has a hole and it doesn't go through and it is a tapered pin as it stops in the plug. My frame broke so it was easy to get the body out with the pins still in.
