Well everyone, I can happily say I have put 9 good flights on this jet. Every flight I am pushing it harder and faster. Really trying to find the limits with this plane

The even better news is that I stayed with newest rudder control method but with a few modifications to take the slop out. And I have done tons of full throttle high speed passes and have had no flutter or no weird tendencies. I will keep flying it like this and keep reporting what is going on with the rudder and my flights.

Steve, i am curious as to what the changes/mods you made to the rudder ? I am awaiting my F-16 to ship soon, and am hoping to keep the linkage concealed as well. Though i will be speed limiting the aiframe via pitot sensor, I do tend to fly on the more aggressive side still so i definitely want to ensure a slop free set up.

SM promised to have the F-16 painted by December, and they delivered pictures of the painted plane right on time! I had placed this order through Detail4Scale and between Dan and SM, I have been very happy with this process. I can't wait to get started on it. I would have gone for the 1/5 scale one, but i would never be able to get it out of the basement where i build by stuff

When I get back from work tomorrow I will take my rudder and fin off and take somesome pics of what I did. I knew of the issues people were having with the rudder setup. So I took it to a buddy of mine who know right away what needed to be done to fix it. I'll post some pics tomorrow.

Any guys here running the down-n-locked conversion on the 1/6 SM F-16 ? How reliable have these been? What are you doing on gear doors ? I am pretty sure i will want mine converted... the operation and scale appearance of the electric set ups is just unbeatable i think, and i would go electric wherever possible on all projects ...I really like the electric operation with Down and locked on my P-47.

Voy - we have one guy here in Norway who converted LiKai's masterpiece to Down and Locked electrics, he was not very happy with it.
We have started using these SNC air valves for more air and more controlled air flow, looks great and works every time! Tor

I sure am glad to see that this post is still goin,, I am in the process of building my f16, its an older one, the box is dated 2010, was sitting in a fellas garage, never built it, decided to sell it, and I got it,, I have read this entire post, and its a lot of knowledge and experience, I am thankful for the guys faithfully helping others with this bird, Tor you are the man on this plane...
If I have questions, and I will, I will post them, I know you guys are great to help, and have plenty of experience,, Now its off to bed,, been working on fitting these stupid gear doors for over 5 hours, I think I got one done, we will see when I get up and the epoxy dries,,,

Hi man - congratulations on your F-16, you will love it! Just post any questions here, and you will
probably get all the help you need. Good luck with the build and welcome to the club! Tor

Hi Tor
i guess you are talking about SMC airvalves, but to my knowledge these are 24V operated

are you making a special control for them? At what voltage?

How are you controlling air flow?

I could get these valves easier and cheaper than dedicated rc ptoducts.

Those are nice valves, I have seen them before in other applications . What are you guys driving them with ? As to the electric conversion, wold you know more detail as to what the one guy did not like about it ? were there issues ?

regards,

Voy

[SIZE=2]I had my 1/8 for converted by D&L, I had some issues with the transmissions stripping out, according to mitch they got a bad batch of gears, they did good by me and replaced all of them, no questions asked. The system worked well, the only downfall is how long it took,, almost 12 seconds from endpoint to endpoint.

I have a down and locked conversion on a set of the fairly large and heavy sierra gear on a CARF p-47. I absolutely love the operation, however i did have a controller burn out. Mitch immediately resolved this and the new one has been great since. You could not ask for a better person to deal with for customer service and support. On the other hand, occasional reports of issues here and there make people hesitate. Its hard to get a fair consensus and all around opinion as the nature of forums is to hear the negative when people have problems . The majority of those with success do not take initiative to post this online, as lets face it, a lot of us come here for help, and that is often due to a problem .

All in all, i am thinking of giving D&L a shot on the 1:6 F-16 ... just wish D&L would use stepper drivers like Behotec does ( i have a set of the C50 electrics for my Tucano, and they are awesome )

Voy, I tried to get hold of the guy who had the problem - I believe it was an end-stop problem that drained the batteries, but I'm not sure. BR: I have not yet installed this myself, but I will check with
some of the other guys, I think they are on 12V with a very simple electric switch connected.

Well Happy new year to everybody, hope you're all ready for some awesome RC fun this season.

Westwindpilot86 I'd be very interested to see your modification to the rudder, the Modification Icepilot has been using works very well but I'm sure even he will agree its not very aesthetically pleasing, if you could kindly at your convenience post the photos of the modification & let us know which engine you are using that would be of great help.

Very best regards, Derek & the 1/6th F16 boys.

This is how I ended up in my efforth to make a more realistic afterburner.
Can be used without rings in the rear, any sportjet or scale jet should really have one I think, no more black hole in the center..

Like this.
Ordered some LEDs and soldered my own ring and added one ring to existing ring in the rear.
Have started the engine now and there is no problem with the heat, the trick is to have 1 cm distance to the nozzle.
This will be even better with the hatch on and in the air, the airflow inside has a far better cooling effect.
It also works nice on my Rebel.
No LED controller on the Rebel, just a microservo glued to a switch wich activates at 80% thrust, costs nothing and can take any current.

I have yet to hear of one person who flies their scale jet regularly be happy with electric gear.

Have you flown this system. What turbine do you have in your SM 16. The picture looks like a Behotec.
Thanks

Getting ready to order one of these. Is the extended parabrake housing an option? I know they have an option for the D4S parachute with housing, but I just want the non-functional housing. Also, are the wing slats standard or an option? I can't tell from Skymaster's site and they are away on holiday at the moment.
