Default Jetlegend T-45 Hawk

That other thread has way to much craziness, too much stuff to weed through for someone just looking for info on the jet itself, so I thought I would start a new one.
Mine arrived, with the new wing, and it's pretty impressive. The first thing I thought is that they really went all-out on the detail side of things. Three big sheets of transfers, many, many, many fiberglass detail parts, full gear doors, lots of panel lines and such, tailhook, it's really got a lot of stuff going on.
I'd kind of like to actuate the speedbrakes and do full gear doors, but maybe I will just built it plain first.
I was also thinking of scanning the sticker sheets and making decal sheets instead.
The landing gear is superb, really nice.
It's not particularly light, glasswork-wise, but not especially heavy, in my opinion. I felt like the stabs could be a little lighter. The stab mechanism seems great.
Some nice touches, like the inside surfaces of the flaps are painted red. The paint job is matte, not gloss, not sure what the prototype is, but the matt finish definitely makes it looks less "arfy" than most.

What else?

Still no sign of a replacement wing.
Has anyone received theirs?

Hi Jim,

I received some T45's with the new wing - unfortunately DHL had decided had used their new economy delivery service of kicking them to your front door!

How do the new wings look compared to the old wings? What has changed? Specs? Photos comparing the two?

I don't have the old one to compare...

I was thinking of maybe just linking the tailhook on a microservo to the flaps, the hook does down when the flaps go down.

Not sure about speedbrakes yet. Gear doors, man, there are a LOT of them. How many cylinders would that be? Hmmm....

What about a cockpit kit? Anybody find anything that fits?

If you want a 1:6 cockpit kit you will have to make your own, like this

Hi All,

I am interested in one of this, but what engine size is this for? I have a spare Artes Falcon. Will it be too big an engine? Any other paint scheme besides the red/white training planes?

The Falcon is too big for the JL T45, I would have a look at the Feiboa Hawks (Three colour schemes T45, Red Arrows or all Black) or wait for the new Skymasters Hawks. Falcon would be good in any of these.

Hi John,

Any recommended engine? Would an Artes Super Bee be the right size for it? How about Wren Super Sport? Has anyone flown with the new wings?

Regards,

Mike

Both the Super Bee and Supersport would be perfect as these are the lightest turbines in their class.I understand that only the factory has flown with the new wings, shouldn't be long before some customers have their new wings and can file a report ,hopefully.

I THINK the reason only one paint scheme is offered is because the full scale T-45 differs pretty substantially from the Hawk, and this is the only full scale paint scheme that there is for the T-45.
I like the way they gave a whole ton of different serial numbers on the decal sheets.

Skymasters are doing a cockpit for their new Hawks, it may be possible to modify it to fit a 1:6 Hawk. BTW the shots are of my SM Hawk cockpit at 1:5.5 scale, home made because there was no commercial cockpit at that time. But a1:6 would be no problem to make, I suspect you could even use the same instruments, at that size 1:6 or 1:5.5 probably doesn't look too different.

Why didn't they make it look like a T-45 wing? It would not have been that hard, if they were redesigning it anyway.

Hi Dom,

Just a very quick measure up of the new wing:

Weight is 214g (7.55oz) less.
Wingspan is 70mm (2.76”) greater. See photos.
Definitely has washout, about 1 deg. Will be easier to measure when control surfaces are fitted.

Photos show new wing below the original wing.

Unfortunately, DHL also added a few mods of their own to the wing I received…

Mine also has definite washout. Can you compare the airfoils between the two wings?

I had some minor damage from DHL to my fuse, nothing to worry about. Minor stuff. Probably because I had F-15 bombs and missles and a ton of other stuff packed in the box, too. The wing arrived in a seperate box, zero damage, good packing job.

Don't know if the T45 canopy would fit but why doesn't your friend approach PJP (www.pjpjets.co.uk) who sell the original Jim Fox/ICE Mouldings Hawk. He will be able to buy a direct replacement.

Cheers

I am also waiting for a landing gear set for the F15.
Maybe Yang is on holiday?
