Default Wren's new Baby

Wren unveiled their new engine today. It is called the XL and is in the 16Kg class. Sara was clearly the inspiration for this engine as its a little on the short side. In fact it is only 1/2" longer than an MW 54.
It's early days yet but the engine started and ran superbly (was that ever in doubt?). The order list is already building chaps, don't leave it too long.
Well done Wren.

OK, Mark, you are on the list! It will be some months yet, but we wanted to show people what we are doing. We are starting a list of people who are interested in buying the XL and the people on the list will be contacted first when the engines start to ship.

In reply to Spartan, the engine will be available as a ready-built engine at first. After we've built a good number of them we will have some idea whether a kit is feasible but we don't know yet.

John Mac .... I'm honoured that our lovely new engine shares my petite and cuddly proportions!

Please tell me that it has kerosene start and an internal thermocouple and a smoke system/retracts tap and a lifetime waranty. What is the projected fuel efficiency?

Looking good.

Peter

rjbob,
Yes, the USA sales will be through JHI. Australian sales through Perth RC, European sales through our respective dealers ...etc.

RC Man,
Kerosene start ... unlikely, we are in no hurry to implement this as we are still not convinced of the reliability and we are concerned about the risk of hot starts.
Internal thermocouple ... we don't see a need for it.
Smoke system/retracts tap ... I'll mention this to the guys
Lifetime waranty... We'll be announcing warranty details nearer the release date

What is the projected fuel efficiency? As good as we can get it! Wren engines are usually efficient when compared with others.

Rider60
The sound is deeper and LOUD! It has quite a different "voice" when compared with the 54 and 44.

Despite the fact that we are still unpacking (Wayne, you were 100% right on that!) the XL200 is on target and we hope the engines will be available in March. We knew we were moving so the production schedule for the new engine was planned around the move and at the moment - fingers crossed - all is going according to plan.

The move is still giving some headaches because the broadband internet connection isn't yet up and running. I'm using a tired, elderly dialup modem which takes some persuading to do anything and so email response is limited at the moment. Hope it will be sorted out in the next couple of days.
