Default Skymaster F-18 Chippy Ho

I am considering buying one of these kits with a P-120. Anyone have any advice on that? These are the older version F-18. What is the difference between the older version and the new version? Will this be a quality, good flying jet or should I spend my money elsewhere? Is the retract / landing gear strut a problem spot on this model?

Thanks!!

Dom

Dom,

Be sure to check with Bob at JetCat USA before you buy the package. It is my understanding he will not service any JetCat turbines not bought from USA.

Bob Wilcox said he will warranty the engines purchased from Eric or Tam but not from Xtreme Jets. These are the only dealers I asked about.

Do you think that the P-120 is enough power or do I need a Titan. I want large loops and good vertical but do not need massive top end speed or unlimited vertical.

Any comments on the kit quality?

SO WHATS THE DEAL IS HE SPLASHING JETCATS NOW????????? DON'T THINK SO HE IS GETTING THEM FROM GERMANY AND SO THE GERMAN WARRANTY SHOULD BE IN AFFECT AND ACTUALLY THE USA WARRANTY SHOULD ALSO BE. YOUR CHEVY

GETS FIXED AT ANY FRANCHISED , BY THE MANUFACTURER DEALER IN THE WORLD. EXCLUDING EMISSISION REGULATED ITEMS BY THE SPECIFIC COUNTRY. SO IF I AM OUT OF COUNTRY SHOULD I NOW NOT EXPECT TO GET ANY J/CAT WARRANTY SERVICE. J/CAT USA- PLEASE EXPLAIN THIS PROCEDURE

JetCat USA is a seperate sales and distribution entity apart from JetCat in Germany.

AirPac and Tamjets are authorized dealers of JetCat USA (there are many others, just check the website). Therefore the warranty and/or repair of JetCat products they sell is handled by JetCat USA.

I would assume that extreme jets is getting product from JetCat Germany, or from another dealer outside of JetCat USA. Those products are supported through that network.

Dom, I think you would do fine with either a P-120 or a Titan. If you want decent punch at a lower cost, a P-120 is great. If it were me I would go with a Titan to have the perfomance edge.

Hope that helps,

THEN THIS IS A GREAT BUYER BEWARE, IN THE USED OR NEW MARKETPLACE. WE HAD ALL BETTER BE SURE WHERE EACH ENG. CAME FROM BEFORE PURCHASE.

G. Kerr Dude turn off your Caps...

Maj Woody,

Attached is a pic of my SM f-18C which I eventually got rid of because I was having a really scary elevator issue. The person I sold it to was given full disclosure and I sent the third replacement stabs to him. See the attached post. I would TRIPLE check that the elevator issue has been taken care of....

She was gorgeous and I got one great flight out of her before I sold her...[&o] I flew her with a P-120 with out any problems. She had plenty of authority and tracked great. Careful with the ground handling.

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_48...tm.htm#4806202

I replaced it with the JL F-18c....

David,

All the engine purchase from AirPac will have full warranty cover by manufacture. We are authorized US dealers of JetCat USA, AMT USA, Artes, Simjet, and PST.

In the case of JetCat, All JetCat engines are from JetCat USA, and can be serviced by JetCat USA. We don't got it from unknown source.

I ordered this kit and went with the Titan for power. Should be awesome. What are you guys using for servos? Is there a Futaba servo that will fit into the aileron opening? Will a standard size servo fit in the Aileron opening or does it have to be a mid to mini servo? What is the minimum tork required for each elevator servo? Anyone know where I can get a cockpit kit for this jet? Eric is out of stock right now.

Ailerons

Elevators

Rudders

Flaps

Thanks,
Dom

I did not order a bypass, will the skymaster pipe come with a bellmouth on it?

This is the list I have in my F-18F, the C should be the same.
Elev DS 8611A
Aile DS 3421
Flaps DS 8611A
Rudd DS 168
Nose Z650M

The pipe should have a bellmouth, I also have mine without a bypass, works awesome.
Here is a video.

Michel suggested Z650M

Great choice. You need high torque as much of the airplane's weight is on the nose wheel.

Yes Todd suggested that servo when I got my first big jet, ever since I haved in all my jets and all my customers have adopted it also.

I kinda overkill on my F-18's. I've put hitec 5955's on the nose!

What have most of you done for the flap linkage? Are you putting the flap servo in the fuse and using the plug in method or cutting another bay in the wing? Will a standard size servo fit in the wing at the flap location? I have JR 3421's for ailerons but standard size servos for the flaps.

We used 5945 in the last SM F18 we started to build. it was placed in the wing not the fuse. Re inforce the top skin of the wing where the servo will sit...

What is the correct door sequence for the F-18 and what type of valve and switches are required? I like using valves like the UP-2 that do not require a separate air system. Can someone list a breakdown of all the parts needed to make the doors operational?

Thanks!!

For doors operation we use:

1. 20 pcs off set hinges
2. 7 pcs 1" door cylinders ( 3 pcs in each main door + 1 pc for back nose door)
3. 2 pcs 7/16" door cylinders (for 2 front nose doors)
4. 2 pce Jet-Tronic Dual Action Valve (one for gear, one for door)
5. 1 pcs Jet-Tronic Gear Door Sequencer
6. about 10 pcs air T fitting or/and X fitting
7. about 10 ft. airline

That so far I can think about

is this the same as the x-treme jets F-18C? Because I'm looking at both the F-18C or the Rafale and from what
I hear they are just the older non-arf plus versions of the skymaster planes. If anyone has any insight on this I'd
appreciate it because I'm looking to get one of these 2 planes very soon. Also will the F-18 be a dog with a P-120
and lastly what type of speed will I get with the P-120.

This is the older non ARF Plus kit. Hundreds of these have been sold and are flying. The ARF plus offers some improvements but for what the older kits are selling for now they represent a real bargain and are hard to pass up. I hear the P-120 will fly this plane just fine. I will be flying from grass and like plenty of vertical so the Titan was my choice. Nothing like doing a dirty pass at 50 feet then retracting the gear as you pull the nose up 60 degrees and push that throttle forward and watch the jet slowly but purposefully climb. Next comes a half roll and a gentle swoop back down. Gotta have thrust for that!!

The Skyamster version F-18 is not the same as x-treme jets. All the plane sold or distributed by AirPac have high standard quality control. We don't use economic class accessories. i.e. Robart 635 retract, AirPower high quality painted white hub and tires. you got what you pay for.
