I have to finish this first then it's off to the Hornet. Thought I'd throw a pic of my Angel flight box in there - Mini Fat Albert. Are you going DF again with the F4 or taking the leap to turbine?

I'm staying ducted fan for now.

Cool flight box.

If you fit Spring Air 301s, which are drilled for piano wire leg, are you fitting robart oleos over the piano wire stub or making the whole leg from piano wire? If fitting robart oleos, straight or offset leg to fit in the wells?

according to yellow you can't use a strut, you have to use just the wire because the wing isn't thick enough for both. RC crafters makes custom gear for this plane
, but its not cheap. $495.00 for struts and $695.00 for strur and retracts

Thanks John, but that doesn't look like it would be any slimmer than using a robart offset oleo strut?

IMHO it's a waste spending big bucks for struts on this plane. When you mount the gear doors you can't see the mains. The best compromise is the Yellow oleo nose strut and 3/16" wires on the mains. That's what I had on mine and they worked fine.

Thats what I'm doing on mines also Joe.

Those scale gearing looks great, but at that pricing, thats a powerplant right there!

Just curious aren't they available from Yellow any longer?

I have over 2000 flights on yellow F-4's....For the ducted fan version the wires are fine. If you go turbine I like the strut and shock for full fuel take offs and heavier landings. The mods are easy to do to have doors and all. Check out my pics on page 1..

I did a turbine conversion of the JHH Skyhawk and originally used wire legs. It was awful, it was barely controllable due to flexing of the wire and the model wobbling about because of the higher weight. I changed to robart oleos and it made a big difference. Problem is that the minimum length of the robart offset leg is a bit too long for the F-4, RC Crafters looks nice but I don't want to spend that much on 3 legs! With postage and import duties and taxes charged here on their arrival, it will come to about $670.

Harry,

I also used just the straight Robart on early duct fans. Not the scale look but functional.
