Gregg
I e-mailed Edwards ..got raked over the coals for asking for the "F.S" numbers from one guy and another told me to build an F-15.
They finaly gave me a number that matched this from PPG,MTK2084 a, Carousel red.
The white I am using is Pure white.
The red is more orange and looks great!
Hope this helps

Never shot pure white. I will look like a toy. Try to darken the white with a warm color to give it that " real" look. Can't really tell a difference unless you put them side by side.

RE: Edwards F16 FS#'s ?
I visited Edwards AFB in 1995 as the guest of the base commanding officer, General Rich Engle, who flew F-16 tail number 81-0688. I shot a bunch of photos and got the FS#'s directly from General Engle's staff. The correct FS#s are listed here as previously mentioned by smaze17:

RE: Edwards F16 FS#'s ?
Follow the paint instructins from Two Bobs deal sheet, it should put you in the correct ball park.
83-1172 was my jet out there from 98 through 03. When I left she had just had the orange/red put back on the tails and wings (had been all white for about 6 months). We were saving money and not painting the color on the wings and tails. 78-0080 was the first all white bird, mine was the second. After a close near miss during a chase mission and the pilots saying they couldn't see out all white birds, the color went back on immediately.
There really wasn't an FS number for the color Eddy Orange as it was known, it was a mixture of insignia red and insignia orange developed by the boys at Edaards. Many years ago it was just insignia orange but that has since changed. The color used when I was there and for a few years before me as well as currently is a mixture of two gallons of insignia orange and one gallon of insignia red, if memory serves me correctly.
I left as the new pakistan birds were coming in and these birds may not even be there any more. They had talked about keeping 72 around for a while, but I know 0080 was destined for the bone yard.

Have you seen the ED chase bird lately? I've seen it out on the flightline a few times in the last few years. Last time I saw it out there it was getting a new engine. If I remember correctly, that paint scheme looks different from those prints. The original prints should still be available...I found original prints for the Thunderbird scheme...the paint part numbers are on the prints too.

Yea, the old Block 10's and 15's were still rocking when I was there. They were the last of the breed. There had been talk before I left that 80-0635, 82-1047, and 83-1172 would stay around with the newer Pakistan birds they were getting. 1172 had some different mods for killer High Alpha/Departure work for the Test Pilots School. The other two were rigged for some weird avionics work to be used with the F-22 and B-2 test programs.
I want to agree with you on the fastest Vipers out there. Give them the go and they will runawway from just about any of the other variants of the Viper that have been made. I want to say the Block 50'2/52's could definitely give them a run for the money though.
All in all they were good birds, falling apart yes, but still good. I still remember the long nights stop drilling all the crakcs in the finger spars for the main wings. Thought it was funny, no limmits, just stop drill them untill we could get more from teh bone yerd as they didn't make the parts any more.

Tam is the devil! He make me spend money
I called him for the Edwards trim sheet.
Tam "Why you need"
me "I'm repainting my Tam F16 V1"
Tam" OH you no paint. You sell and buy composite. It already painted!"

The latex was really light, it has great coverage in just a few passes. I used PPG clear coat. I would recommend latex to anybody, and the price cant be beat. I think for both the colors it cost me 30 bucks to spray the whole jet, minus the ppg of course. Let me know if you want the color codes. Thanks, nick

RE: Edwards F16 FS#'s ?
Nick, that is great information. What sort of spray gun did you use? Air pressure? Does latex (when sprayed properly) lay on thick compared to PPG - In other words, will it cover surface details like panel lines, raised panels, etc? You have me thinking now...

RE: Edwards F16 FS#'s ?
Eddie, sorry it took so long to get back, i am on a mission in the pacific. Anyways, laatex will not cover any panel lines, thats the cool thing.. In just a few short blasts with the gun, it will have proper coverage. It is light, not toxic, and water based. I used an automotive touch up gun with the aid if "Flothraugh" i think thats how it is spelled. It loosens up the paint to go through the gun better. Good luck and of course, post some pix. nick
