Will do Tomcat. I just checked the tracking number and I might get the jet tomorrow! I am anxious to get it going but I definetly want to do it right.

As long as this DF thread is still going... Here's my JHI A-7 DF at the Northern Alliance Military Fly-in in Owatonn, MN last weekend. This started as the first release ARF in the Edwards scheme but I retouched the paint job to replicate one of the A-7D prototypes... also at Edwards. It has the Turbax48 with K&B .48... run's great... flies great.

Cheers
Craig

Thanks Anthony. Yeah, they have a great field... and I had a typo in the last message... that's Owatonna MN. Great group of people in that club and they really know how to run an outstanding event. Here's a link to that club site: http://www.smmac.com/ The facilities, field and surround area is perfect for R/C. They have a 700' hard surface made from a type of matt. Excellent stuff... but not quite as hard as concrete if one should lose a gear on the runway or perform the infamous figure 9. Virtually no transition interference from grass to runway to grass.

If you're ever in the area, do look them up and stop in. They welcome visitors and if you look at their picture gallery, you'll see that there's some rather interesting and spectacular modeling going on there. Nice thing too is that these folks are Jet friendly... EDF/ICDF/and Blowtorches... they have 'en all.

Guys, I have a chance to purchase a YA F-16 ducted fan jet. It's the old kit but everything is new in box,,,kit, retracts, wheels, engine, pipe, etc...My question is whether this is a good kit to buy,,,knowing that YA doesn't support this kit any longer. I talked to YA today and really couln't get any help except to be told that if the fuse is green fiberglass then its the old kit. Was told that all I could buy from them is the canopy.

So....what do you guys think....is this something worth while or something to forget...

Thanks,

Ken

Ken,

It is a good kit. Just use the fact taht parts aren't available to get a better price.

Hello fellow "Ducted Fan Flyer's"!
All I'm interested in is building, flying and talking about 2 stroke engines, tuned pipes, ducted fans and ducted fan airframes![sm=thumbup.gif]
How come there is no Forum just for us?
I like Turbines and such but love ducted fans![sm=tongue_smile.gif]
Seems we have to gather at the "Turbine forum" to talk "Fans"!
Anyone else interested a Ducted fan Forum?

Very much so SJ. It is a shame we got shoved to the back burner. I never thought that it would be like this. I figured that turbines would take over part of the jet market, but not completely dominate it. It seems like overnight everybody got a turbine and a suitable field to fly it and now DFs get no love.

It's too bad for us die hard DF fans.

Keep hope alive!

Count me in, SJ, even if this has been often debated ("turbine pilots are retired df-pilots" ... tends to become untrue !)

It's just the usual BS about how there just isn't enough Ducted Fan Flyer's to justify their own Forum![:'(][:@]

Let's see...

"Electric Ducted Fans" have their Forum![sm=thumbup.gif]
"Turbines" have their Forum![sm=thumbup.gif][sm=thumbup.gif]
"2 Stroke Ducted Fans" no Forum![sm=thumbs_down.gif][sm=thumbs_down.gif][sm=thumbs_down.gif]

Electric fans @ 7 years.
Turbines @ 12 years.
2 Stroke Ducted Fans @ 30 years!

I Don't know what they smoke in the lounge at RCU Headquarters but it must really be some potent stuff to try and say there is no place for 2 Stroke ducted Fan since that is where it all started and is the very root of where Jet Flying began!

Bottem line is 2 Stroke Ducted fans enthusiasts are and always will be 3rd and 4th or last on RCU (however you want to say it) until RCU pulls it's head out of the sand or we band together and do something to change their minds!

It isn't the time, money or lack of something it's just the usual political spin that diverts the issue that RCU is "Biased about what Forums will be offered"!

I have even offered to moderate or whatever they need to do to help get it going and the usual "Were fine thank you"![:'(]

If it's true and there is not enough people to sustain a "2 Stroke Ducted Fan Forum" Find out by at least giving it a try!

RCU has tried several other Forums that have failed due to lack of interest!

Just one enthusiasts perspective about what is and what could be!

SJ

I think the majority are like me, I fly Turbines and have IC and electric Ducted fans, also. BUT I only frequent ONE forum.............. RCU Jets. I would not go to a forum about DF, only. I do read all the DF fan stuff here in the Jets forum ,and even offer help when I know the answer. I Don't go to the electric jet forum, either even tho I have several Electric jets, too.

Bottom line, you DF guys would be missing out on a lot of advice and help, as the ones that have been there before you wouldn't know you need it!

Hi Guys,

Here is the finished product to my long running project. Still needs engine & radio installed. Once I sort out first flight I will offer plans to the public.

Enjoy!

Yeah, I'd like to know that too. I talked to Charles yesterday (because of your plane) and he said it was available as a single only but I failed to ask him if he meant a single DF or a Turbine. What is the weight of it? Would it even fly off of a single DF?

I,m using OS. 91 and a dynamax fan unit. The weight is 11.5 lbs which is about 2lbs lighter than my F-18. I will wait till OCT to fly her because its just to hot and humid her right now. I think she will fly great but we shall see. Thanks for the compliments.

Wow John,

You kept that thing light. I have a TGA F-15 that is just under 13lbs that flies great, I have an OS 91 and a Bryon fan in it. You should do just fine, just don't rotate it before you have built up enough speed. I know what you mean about hot, it was 101 yesterday but it's supposed to cool down to 97 or 98 here today. Time to make that A/C earn it's keep. Let us all know when you maiden it! It sure looks good!

Guys,

Tell me what you think of the Yellow Aircraft F-16 kit....Its the green fiberglass and therefore the older kit. Like to hear from those who built and flew the kit.

Thanks,

ORIGINAL: perttime

ORIGINAL: mafrasca
Now as for starting the DF engine most common DF units these days have a bolt with a hexagonal type head on the fans spinner. You can purchase a starting wand (similar to that the heli boys use but much longer). The wand normally passes through an opening underneath the canopy to the hex bolt in the fan.
I have some problems visualising this.

Anybody got a picture?
CAn some one tell me if you have flown ducted fan off grass fields, if so what setup?
