RE: Fei Bao 1/8 Scale F-18F Super Hornet
Has anyone experienced the aileron servo (HS 5245MG) sitting too high in the aileron servo well. The way it sits right now my hatch doesn't fit flush with the top of the wing. Could someone send a pic of how they mounted their aileron servos? That might explain it better..Thanks, Rick

here is how it looks, I did have to shave some of the wood from the inner side of the cover.
Also the "L" brackets are mounted with a screw thru the wood former but I did glue in a reinforcement of carbon fiber which the screw goes thru.

Thanks Paul, that's exactly how I did mine as well...I may try and shave some off the hatch for a better fit...I'm installing the control horns tonight..I had one of the Pre-slot locations that was wrong from the factory so I'll have to fix that..Thanks for the help!! Rick

udi,
It does not matter which brand do you use for the F-18. Pick one that you know you can get support and service from your dealer. Both of the brands you mention are good. I do have a preference for Jet Central, so that will be a the Rhino.
The thrust for the F-18 is another matter. I will fly my FeiBao F-18F with a 30 pounds Super Eagle (not sure how many newtons, > 120N but less than 160N). I think this should be ok. A 160N turbine will be excellent

Yes I had a SM F18c with a Merlin. Performance was similar to a missile. I now have the SM F18E Superhornet which I am building for the same engine. I expect this to be just a little slower but should still easily exceed 200MPH. Fantastic engine.

Paul, Is the elevator position at neutral exactly horizontal??? I'm setting up the radio and wasn't sure if it needed a slight bit of up elevator....Also did you split your elevators on the F-18?? Running on two separate channels?? Thanks,

Hi Dave
I don't belive you will have a problem with that. Don't drill the carbon shaft. I have mine that way.
If you have a problem with that put 5 hinges instead of 3.

Can someone tell me the correct angle for the airbrakes when fully deployed? As delivered mine only deflect around 30 degrees up.

Hi
I am using 135mm and it flew fine last weekend, again. Measure it at the wing leading edge near where it joins the fuse.
Also when flying the plane I found it to be kind of sensitive with 50mm elevator throw and 15 mm aileron throw. 50 and 30 expo respectevely.
Good luck
Nuno

RE: Fei Bao 1/8 Scale F-18F Super Hornet
anyone have a picture of their bypass install? Mine seems to sit too high in the aft part. Wondering if the flange on the bypass goes below the mounting blocks for the turbine mount (which seems to correct the thrust line/center of intake/exhaust)?
Thanks
Dave
Thanks

Hi
I have 25mm for take off and 50 for landing. I only use half by-pass. used to use all the bypass but I guess that the turbine works better with just half bypass.
Also I believe that the pipe runs cooler that way
Good luck

Hi Everyone,
Well I am working on replacing all of my door hinges and installing the retracts and struts. However the drilled position for the retract (main) will not allow the strut to pass through when retracting without hitting the fuse.
Has anyone else noticed this? What did you do to fix it? I can onl imagine grinding part of th emount out and sliding the retract towards the midline of the plane.....
Thanks for your help,
Dave
