Default Who makes this nose retract? And where can I get one?

I bought an F-86.

One of the pictures below shows a retract mechanism coming into the inlet ducting, if this can be avoided, I'd like to do that, otherwise I'll have to fashion a fiberglass piece to go over the retract, which is ok if I have to. I believe this is a tam's retract. This other retract might be small enough to fit?

One thing I noticed in another picture of the tam retract is the cylinder is not attached to the retract, that's ok, but in this other picture it does not show a cylinder, so which one is recommended?

Thanks,

I need to add that I would like rotating as well. Does robart make a rotating nose retract that will fit this airplane?

The retract you have pictured appears to be a BVM for the 60" sabre.

Its the older plastic version. The newer metal rotating 60" nose unit should work well, you can see a picture of it on BVM`s web site. I have one in my AD F-16 as well as in my BVM Sabre and it works every time. BTW, what F-86 did you buy??

The Fei Bao but I'm not sure there is enough clearance for the new way they have the air cylinder installed on the unit. I guess I'm going to have to make a fiberglass hump in there. That's why when I found I guess to be the old unit, thought it might fit better.

This F-86 is substantially bigger than the 60" bvm one, so not sure what I would do for a strut since the little bvm retract uses like 3/8 or something like that as I recall.

Yeah, the BVM uses a 3/8" strut and your Sabre is some what bigger and heavier.

Any other ideas for a direct drive system? I already have a robart nose retract here that is non rotating, but I'm over a month out from starting the 86 and want to float a few ideas while I'm in the thinking stages. When is robart going to learn that we need a direct drive steering system? I'd pay double for it.

you would have to do a hump still but the tam unit is really nice and not a ridiculous price.

Hi Kevin

Trim Aircraft sells a nice nose gear alittle bigger than the BVM and rotates 90 degs.
I have one on my F86 ( 80 ") it looks just like the one in your pic but all alluminum

Good luck

Ted

looks like a BVM manual retract.
They have a new all metal with cylinder, and it fits were the old one did.
Also, you can get one that rotates the wheel as it retracts.

I think I might order that, but not sure yet. The BVM one is over an inch in depth, and it's only 3/8 strut, which I'm finding is the norm.

So I don't know, spoke to Ed at great northern, he has a trim unit, but again, 3/8". If I can't find the right one, I'll call Robart and see if they
have a rotating low profile 630 or 635 unit. I'd rather have the half inch strut and just build a hump in the intake if I have to.

Tough stuff, you'd think with all the options we have today, what I need would be easy.
