Default Anyone moulded their own glassfibre turbine bypass duct?

Hi All,
Just wondering if anyone has moulded their own glassfibre turbine bypass duct and what weight and type of cloth and mould/plug they used? Was it difficult? Do you need to make any special precautions with regard to heat rising, from the gap between the turbine exhaust and the intake to the jetpipe?
I want to make a bypass duct for a small Airworld 1/7 th scale L39 with Wren Supersport power going into a single walled 3" diameter 0.15 ss tailpipe.

thanks and good landings
Dave

It's a lot of work!

Once you have the mold, you can layup different weights and see what you like. I would start with two layers of 3 ounce or a layer of 6 and a layer of 2. Something like that. This was for a P200.

Hi Dave,

here one I made for a MW44. It was made from solid aly and took a while to do. Why dont you get a purpose made BVM RAM500 bypass and use a double walled pipe? I have and its a very efficient cool running set-up with 19lb thrust from a 18lb thrust engine. Things are not so expensive from the US at the moment with the good exchange rate.

Dave,

Just pop over to Lindsay's place and take a look at the G-91. He made one for the RAM and is no making one for the P-120.

Easy . . . .

Hi Everyone
Thanks Alot for the info guys....I asked Lindsay then forgot what weights of cloth he told me to use, old age doh!
Just wanted to know that when you shut down the turbine the hot exhaust emitting upwards will not go between the tailpipe bell inlet and engine exhaust outlet and damage anything...
The gap is quite small though.....
thanks again
Dave
