Skygate Collection Hawk - BUILD PICS!!!
Well, after 8 months it arrived!!!
I think WOW pretty much covers it! It's BIG and if you can't find any bubble wrap in any shops for the next few months it's because Skygate used it all to pack my model up!!!! Pretty much filled my workshop with the stuff
I went for pretty much every option they offer and to say there is a lot of bags and bits is an understatement!! Standard German kit though - all these bits and no instructions, just a few pics on a CD
Yes, I'm a Comp-ARF rep but that doesn't stop me acknowledging quality! Wanted a big scale model but just couldn't quite afford our big twin Mig-29 [:@]
There still seems to be an awful lot to do even after having spent the best part of £600 on their 3 build stages they offer!!!
Anyway, the best part of a new model is always unpacking it so here's what came out the myriad boxes/bubble wrap!.....
Rgds,
Mark

RE: Skygate Collection Hawk
Spent a while familiarising myself with all the parts today and started out my getting the front and rear fuselage sections setup for a strong yet quick to separate joint. 4 captive nuts and 6 locating pins do the job.
With the fuse together for the first time I remember just how much bigger this model is indoors than in the middle of an airfield

RE: Skygate Collection Hawk - ARRIVED!!!
OK, spent a bit of time opening up all the scale holes/vents - amazing how many there are!! Added a few of the scale parts too. Trickiest part probably on the whole build was/will be the fin tube fitment due to lack of access. I know the glue is messy but it was applied on the end of an 18" rod and I wanted plenty after the earliest prototypes suffered from fin flutter!
The brass tube guides a long allen key directly to the retaining M3 bolt. Easy setup just a pain to do
Anyway, a few more pics for those who have asked!

Frontend? Oh [X(] Thought it fitted in the car OK
Anyway, been doing those jobs that seem to take forever and then when you turn round look like you've done nothing!! Few shots of some of the "less progressive" parts that still gotta be done!

RE: Skygate Collection Hawk - ARRIVED!!!
Another few hours spent seemingly making no difference Got the various fuse openings finished with different sized tubing - wife is gonna go ballistic when she opens her make up bag in the morning and finds 1" and 2" lopped off some of her lids etc! They were just such a nice fit!! Got some explaining to do! [X(]
Got the aileron servos/linkages/covers in place too.
Anyway, a few pics for those asking....

Mark

RE: Skygate Collection Hawk - ARRIVED!!!
Greg,
I would guess I have about 20hrs in it so far - not much I know but fitting that many hours into my week is not at all easy! Long gone are the 12hour building days I once enjoyed during college days
Power wil be the Graupner G-Booster 160.
Pictures of the LG below. Servo for size comaprison. Mains are 6"

RE: Skygate Collection Hawk - ARRIVED!!!
c_makhija,
I have 8511 on the rudder, 8711 on elev, flap and aileron, 8511 on nose steering. Weatronic RX. Jetronics gear valve and sequencers and Graupner G-Booster (or possibly P160SE depending which throttles faster)
Let me know if you need anymore info on this kit.
Rgds,
Mark

RE: Skygate Collection Hawk - BUILD PICS!!!
Hello Mark
This kit is marvellous, and I never see such hight quality in our hobby. It flies great. The most important parameter during the construction is the weight. We are under 25kg with AMT olympus HP , all AQ are LiPo, 3.5 liters of fuel ( 9 minutes of intensive demonstration flight), 1 pilot, no light, no smoke system, no gas on board.
You have to pay attention to the frames of the rudder, because one was glued on only one side so during a flight it has took his liberty causing a light flutter .
bye
Stan

Hi Stan,
I hope to be JUST under 20kg with my model. We wil have to wait and see!
Thank you for the warning about the rudder - I will check it is glued properly.
Rgds,
Mark
