Default Tip for you Rookie Pilots

While taking a look at the wear on my Intairco tires I decided to flip the wheels to the outside. I test flew my Rookie today three times and I have to say that I think I'll leave the wheels this way for good. I notice improved ground handling. The wheel base grew by about 3.5 inches. The wheels do, however, stick out the thickness of the tire ~0.75" from the fuselage, but you can't even tell in the air. I had to apply two clicks of down trim to compensate for the lift effect. Ken

Default RE: Tip for you Rookie Pilots

I CONSIDERED THAT A FEW YEARS AGO BUT I HAVE HAD TO BELLY IN A TIME OR TWO AND I'M SKEERED IT WOULD DO SOMETHING BAD COMING IN ON THEM THAT WAY BUT IMPROVED GROUND HANDLING IS PROBABLY WELL WORTH THE RISK OF A VERY RARE BELLY LANDING. I'VE TORN UP A COUPLE OF ROOKIES BECAUSE OF GROUND HANDLING INCIDENTS. I FLY OFF GRASS AND 1 OR 2 OUT OF MAYBE 200 LANDINGS WILL GET A LITTLE SQUIRLY AND CARTWHEEL OR FLIP. I'D THINK THE WIDDER STANCE WOULD HELP IT KEEP FROM BEING AS TIPPY AND GETTING A WING TIP STUCK. IT'S GOTTA CUT DOWN ON TOP SPEED A LITTLE BUT I'LL BET NO MORE THAN A COUPLE MPHS ON TOP END.. MINE GOES FASTER THAN I WANT IT TO ANYWAY, HAA.
