I have flown mine on both a RAM 1000 and 2 x RAM 750's.
Nice flying model indeed and looks solid in the air. A freind of mine has flown his with an AMT olympus and it goes like a rocket.

Here is a video of it with the 2 750's at the British Nationals during it's flight round where it got the highest flight score of the event.

What is the takeoff distance? What is level flight cruise setting on stick, with lets say a Titan? What is the weight of yours with the Ram 1000? How much runway does it need to land? Thanks, for all the help so far.

32.35 Lbs dry. on the Ram 1000 with it's current configuration. [8D]
Take off and landing distance . . . . .never measured it to be honest. . . . I guess you can work it out from the video.
I fly at between 1/3rd and 1/2 throttle for crusing flight in scale comp as per the video above. Dependent on the wind direction in relation to flight as you can hear in the clip.

That video of the F-18 is great, very scale flight. Makes me want to get mine ready to fly a.s.a.p. Pretty short takeoff and landing distance as well. I am considering using a JetCat Titan SE.

Gordon's info is a little out of date. That kit has been completely redesigned by Yellow. It's internals are completely different than what came in the kit in his link. You can build the new kit for turbine power without any mods or deviations from the plans/instructions. Gordon is correct, though, that Joe McBride is a good person to talk to regarding this airplane. He's the unofficial test-pilot for everyone's F-18.

Cato Horten from Norway flying the F18 with 2 Simjet 3000 - beautiful model.
He has since modified it and now flies with one Simjet Nexus.

Just teasin'. I've been eyeing those two Yellow f-18 twins for sale here on RCU. Frank T was selling one and some other guy in so cal was selling one. I believe the so cal one was really reasonably priced too.

I have the Yellow F18 twin powered by a Titan.
She Fly's nice but it's no rocket if that's what your looking for.
She can easily take off on a 500 foot runway. But Landing her is a different issue.
I need about 800 feet to get her down and stopped. Limits most places to Fly her.

Does yours come in hot? I ask because I've seen Kenny put his down in considerably less distance than that. I've also seen them use up a lot of runway when they come in hot.

Mine is heavy she weights in with fuel at 50lbs.
But then again I hold 200 ounces of Jet A in her.
She does land Hot no doubt about it and she has no Gyros on her Rudders or Ailerons.
Here in Sarasota I have a beautiful Runway but 500 feet would never cut it with my Yellow Twin.

I am flying an F-18 Yellow Twin. It is now 7 years old. It was originally powered by 2 AMT Mercury engines. Flew nice but was heavy. Now it is powered by single olympus and this is the correct power. With practice it can be landed on 600 feet at sea level. Coming in with power and lots of flaps, I think it slows down beautifully. If you get it too nose heavy it will come in quicker. A little nose heavy is perfect(slightly nose down with yellows measurements empty fuel tanks with a 20 ounce header under the hatch in front of the front wing former.

My #6 prototype is 7 years old. It flew with an original design Olympus very well for 6 years, but now has awesome performance and autostart with the JetCat P200. It is the first plane I painted so I laid it on a little thick and added some weight. Takeoff weight with 165 oz is 51 lbs. It's got 12 functions on a DX7 (with matchboxes and Channel expanders). I've never had a failsafe on the Jetcat ECU (with the DX7) on over 20 flights with the hornet and 60 with the Rook.
It takes off in about 500 feet and lands in the same.
Most of you guys have seen this video from a while ago, but for those who have not:

Put about 60 flights on Lou V's Chippy HO with an Olympus HP and being that it's about 10 lbs lighter than mine, it probably takes off in less than 500 feet and stops even quicker.
I got one flight on Kenny's twin P120 powered beast and that was a hoot...can't have too much power.
Just flew Ken Le's Chippy HO with a P200 at CA Jets and although I couldn't get the gear clean it was mooooovin!
Mine still flies the best!
The plane's BIG and has alot of drag in landing config. I'd put the Titan in a Tamjet Superhornet and wait until I had a bigger motor for this bird. Sure the original plane was flown on ducted fans...but we have made some progress in the past 25 years (haven't we?).

My Yellow F-18 is pretty light. weighing in around 43-45lb with 200oz of fuel. I'm using a Jet Central Rhino. this plane has plenty of power with this engine combo. I have sixty flight on this bird and I really enjoy it everytime I fly it. My plane can take off in 500 feet or less but I wouldn't fly it at a field with only 500 feet. You are taking a big risk if anything would happen.
