Get Well soon Ali
Ali Machinchy was out at Top Gun this past week, I spoke to him almost every day (enjoying not having to pay international cell phone rates for once). Yesterday (Monday) morning we spoke about 5am California time as I called to wish him a good flight home and hoping to speak to him soon. His plane was scheduled to depart out of Orlando at 10am so I was pretty shocked to get a call from him at 5pm California time saying that he was still in Orlando and was just released from the Hospital.
Apparently Monday morning he was on his way up to Kissime to pick up the video of he flying a Harvard the past week. While cruising down the freeway in his rented Corvette (T-tops removed) a lady decided to make an illegal u-turn and pull right out in front of him causing the Corvette to broadside the womans truck at over 70mph. The next sequence of events is nothing short of a very strange and fortunate Miracle. As Ali's car went underneath the truck, the truck flipped over as it slid across the tapered hood of the vette. The truck rolling over was the only reason Ali was not decapitated as the truck went through his windshield and clipped him in the head as it was rolling......Looks like Ali's Guardian Camel was watching over him.
It was just as fourtunate for the children in the truck. If Ali had rented a Hummer, as he orriginally spoke of, the children inside the car would be dead (the police officer confirmed all of these details).
Ali will be fine and doctor's say he will have no additional brain damage then he already has!
Please help me in wishing my buddy the best as he recovers. This was an eyeopener to him for sure, as it would be to any of us, so maybe now he will take my advise and write a will and leave me all of his planes so we wont have ourselves another Anna Nicole (may her jugs rest in peace) lawsuit on our hands when he decides to leave us.
Oh! Speaking of white trash, the lady who caused the accident had not drivers licence and no insurance......just thought I would throw that in.
I love you bro!
get well soon,
Presta

Ali - didn't Dave already tell you NOT to fly that Vette on 2.4 Gig ???
Sorry to hear of your encounter - but don't listen to Dave about leaving your toys to him in your will. Fact is, Dave has little practice in fixing anything once it needs maintenance, so you'd be much better off leaving it all to a fellow Brit such as myself

Get well soon Ali, women should not be allowed to operate anything mechanical anyway. Hope the good luck holds. Ray.

Ali should be home today, the truck driver was not insured and had no licence. my 14 year old son (Azza) was in the car with Ali when it happend. fortunatly he got away with a stiff neck and a twisted ankle. Ali had a nasty cut from headbutting a flying truck!
i am going to post a couple of pics, hope he dont mind.
PS presta, you might want to edit your post regarding the speed

Dave,
That was so nearly a parent's worst nightmare! Both Azza and Ali have been incredibly lucky - looking at the damage to the car it seems amazing that they escaped so lightly. I bet you were so relieved to see Azza in one piece that you swore never to get cross with him again ...
Give them both my regards and I hope their injuries soon heal.

Azza is fine, we were a mile in front when it happened, Azza phoned me and we turned round. I can’t describe the look on my wife’s face when we saw the car. Azza said the first thing Ali done was get him out of the car to safety then he ran over to the truck and pulled all the people out of the truck. He then ran back to check on Azza then just collapsed in exhaustion. He was being treated by the ambulance staff but was telling them to sort the kids out in the truck first, not knowing they also now had paramedics with them. From what I saw they were not badly injured either.

Ali, I wish you a speedy recovery. It was fun sharing the pitts with you, Barry and Azza. I'm looking forward to many more dinners and time to hang out so be safe and thank God for your lucky escape.
