RE: New Boomerang Elan...
Hi Guys:
I have just sent an email to everyone on my list for the Elan. In it I have listed the kit and additional accessories and the pricing. I have just had a container released from the port in L.A. This container has all my fill in Baby Boomerangs, XL's and spares. It has been in the shipping channel at Long Beach since August 19th!! This is just to give you an idea of what I am up against regarding the delivery of the Elan. If all goes according to plan, I will have it in Dallas last week of September, but I am going to be honest, after the two and a half week wait for this most recent container, I too, feel it might be first 10 days of October. I feel very bad, but this is completely beyond my control. I can promise you all kits will be shipped within two days of my receiving them.
Please call me if you have any questions.

Questions regarding the package deals in the email...
What series Robart retracts & struts?
Who's wheels/brakes & what size?
How many oz. is the Sullivan tank?
This info may help some of us decide to go for the package deals.
Thanks...Scott

Hi Guys,
The first shipment should have left China a few days ago, and we hope to have the kits at the end of September! But both Al's Hobbies and Alan will be taking orders at Jetpower. For anyone who is interested bellow are some pictures of the new Elan, we should also have some flying shots and video in a few days; (as I type this) Alan and Ali are out flying the new kit. Oh and I should also mention that the Jet-1A retracts are also almost ready for shipping!

RE: New Boomerang Elan...
Got this from another thread:
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_53..._5/key_/tm.htm
Are this the final recommendations for radio equipment?

I went to the local HobbyTown and pick up the best digital servos that they had in stock. Paul and i sat down went over the Elan and came up with this, in which it surprized us both how good it fly's.
1. JR. 1800 Nicad 4.9V
2. Airelons - Hitec HS-5645mg 143 (4.8) and 168 oz/in (6.0v).
3. Elevator - JR. 8411- 155 oz/in (4.8).
4. Rudder - Futaba - S9206mg -132 oz/in (4.8).
5. Nose - Hitec HS-645mg 107 (4.8) and 133 oz/in (6.0v)
6. Jetronics Pneumatic valve for the landing gear and brakes.
7. FLAPS - JR. ST-126mg / 126 (4.8) and 142 oz/in (6.0v)
8. Fuel cell is a Wal-Mart's Wash and Wax 128 oz clear bottle that cost $2.88 in the auto dept.

RE: New Boomerang Elan...
Alex,
I am not sure what the recommended setup is, but in the demo model we have the following setup:
Ailerons - 2 x Futaba 3305s
Flaps - 2 x Futaba 3305s
Rudders - 2x Futaba 3305s
Elevators - 2 x JR 8411s
Steering - Futaba 3001
As you can see the only "top spec" servos are on the elevators, the rest of the servos are just high torque metal geared.
Hope this helps.

I'm curious, why is the elevator split?? Is there a reason for this?? Is it such a big surface that it needs two servos??

RE: New Boomerang Elan...
FYI, shipping is now $95 for US customers.
Robart gear & Eurokit wheels/brakes are offered now, but Digitech/Jet-1A gear will be available thru Patricia later.
The big question is P80 or P120se. I'm thinking 120 with throttle management - verticals would be awesome.

RE: New Boomerang Elan...
Fuel tank another $75....come on...
Why they increasing price.
Kit price $1095 changed to $1295
Shipping $75 changed to $95
And now they asking me send check first no credit card accepted.
I'd better wait chinese copy baby boomerang if they making.

Consider it done, and you can of course, pay with a credit card as many of our other customers have done. Call me at 972/991-1499 or email me at [email protected].

RE: New Boomerang Elan...
Lots of questions keep coming in so here are some answers. You will have to decide on what to use in your own installation, but as a guide, here's some of what we used in the latest prototypes.
1. JR. 3000 Nicad 4.8 or 6 volt.(You decide) for the RX. There are no issues regarding C. of G. in the Elan so any size or weight of battery will be OK.
2. SERVOS;- Ailerons - Flaps- Rudders Futaba S3305 or S9206 or similar 125 oz.inch or so. Six needed..
3. SERVOS;- Elevator - JR. 8411- 155 oz. inch. Two needed
4. SERVO;- One Hitec HS-645mg, or Futaba 3001, or similar low cost servo and a Pull-Pull set for the steering.
5. Two Jetronics Pneumatic or other valves for the landing gear and brakes.
6. You will need 6 off 36" servo extensions for the centre section and a further 2 of these for the long run up the booms to the rudders. Also a further 2 slightly longer, say 42" to reach the two elevators.
7. Two 18" extensions from the flap servos to the RX
8. There are some small 6" extensions possibly needed depending on the length of servo wires fitted to the servos you use to reach out from the elevators in the Stab, and the ailerons in the outer wings.
9. Pilot figure.
A custom "made - to - fit" 125 ounce fuel tank from Sullivan products will shortly (within weeks) be available exclusively from Boomerang Jets and Al's Hobbies. I believe Al's are also having some Kevlar tanks made.
A temporary Fuel cell could be made by improvising using a Wal-Mart's Wash and Wax 128 oz clear bottle that cost $2.88 in the auto dept. but this involves cutting away and modifying some of the fuselage formers. (This suggestion came from the Mississippi gang who have been flying a test prototype Elan using this method!).
Other brands of tank will fit easily or you can improvise with a large Coke bottle or similar as was used in the first original prototypes.
All test and prototype Elans have been flying with the servos fed direct from the RX.
No Powerbox or Opto-Isolator has been necessary. Again, your choice.
Further to other questions,..........Elan was designed around the P80 size turbines. Personally I fly both of mine with light weight Wren Supersports (around 18 lbs thrust) because I'm fanatic about saving weight where I can and my Elans both come out around 19 lbs ready to go. They fly like ballet dancers, amazing aerobatics and short take off and landings are easy. When you fit a big turbine you need a bigger fuel load and the weight goes up by 3 or 4 lbs, thus needing heavier duty retracts etc.. In my opinion, larger turbines like the P120 are way over the top unless you dial it down to moderate thrust. Physically it will fit, being the same size as the P80. Just back it off.
The reason various spans have been quoted is because I kept trying different wings until I got the right balance between jet like and aerobatic performance with the ability to glide deadstick in case of a flame out. It is just short of 83" in the final version!
For comparison, the Intro (Baby Boomerang) must be the most flexible jet trainer ever! It has been flown successfuly with everything from a Wren MW44 (10 lbs thrust) to the universal P80 and in one case I was told, with a P120! Definitely not approved of by me! Crazy. P80 MAX. is my recommendation.
The speeds of Intro and Elan are totally different. I deliberately designed "slowness" into the Intro. There are many things about the design which stop it going over about 140MPH. It's fun and famously easy to fly and to land at below 20 MPH.
If all out speed is your thing, there are plenty of other very quick jets out there to buy.
The Elan has been timed, I was told, at 189 MPH with a Ram 750. I was not there so can't vouch for the accuracy, but it is a clean design and seems to move very nicely through the air. The tricky part for me was to get a reasonable speed machine that could do more than just loops and rolls, but still have the characteristics of all my Boomerang Jets designs.
Namely, easy to fly and land, genuinely aerobatic including sustainable knife edge, spins and snaps both ways with instant predictable drop out, smooth transition to slow flight with nose high landing approach with no danger of a wing dropping and snapping into the ground. Properly set up, the Elan does all of this.
We have a new video being edited right now which will show this. Watch this space or our website for a link as soon as it's ready.
That's it for now,
Alan
