RE: Bob Cat Copy Falcon 120 Jet

    madfreestyler,
I thread locked in 6mm threaded rod into the wing roots and where they come into the fuz, I use 6mm washers and wing nuts. This makes it easier to bolt on the wings without the use of any tools - just make sure you leave enough room in front of the fuel tank to get your hands in. The rear nuts are accessed through the rear fuz hatch.

There are two solutions to this problem IMO:

    1. Don't use a UAT, use an Orbit fabric clunk, I use one in my Elan without a UAT and it works fine.

    2. Put the T nut in the fus and the bolt in the wing, hole in the wing to use a ball allen key to do up the bolt, look back in the thread I detained it earlier.

RE: Bob Cat Copy Falcon 120 Jet

hi Guys, found this collpasable stowage box with wheels. Wheels arent massive, but seem to cope with the rough terain in my back garden admirably. Our flying site moved slightly, so have to walk everything over to the strip in about 4 treks, this should do the job. It folds done to virtually nothing and can handle 25 kgs, (on the box) but i have sat on it no probs. I will make a plate seat to fit on the top of it eventually. Cost was unbelivable, at £9.99. Avail in corner shops and also Homebase, (made by Rolson i think). I can fit, 20liter fueller, large fire extinguisher, aircompressor, Propane starter gas, and tailplane protector in it perfectly, plus you can fit another box on top if required. cheers Tim

RE: Bob Cat Copy Falcon 120 Jet

Got my Falcon with the Thanksgiving sale, and finally getting started.
Popped the formers this afternoon. and started stripping the wing to create my own scheme.
Tried in the wing with tube (mine is short...) and then noticed the fit....
The left wing pulls in tight, but this is the best I can get on the right.
Did anyone else have this problem, and if so, how did you fix it...?
    The gap is almost 7/16".
    Thanks
    Greg

That looks really bad. You could sand the front of the wing root so it sits more flush and add some to the aft root. I'd probably look at if the wingtube is in the fuse correctly.

I'd see if wingtip to booms is the same distance on each side as well and check your incidence.

    jetflyr,

Mine was off, but not as bad as yours. I found that my wing tube wasn't exactly straight. I was able to improve the gap somewhat by rotating the tube. There was still about a 1/8" gap aft. I added some balsa to the wing root and sanded it until I got a flush fit.

You need to work out if it is the root, rib, that is not in align, or if it is the wing tube that is not aligned correctly. I would measure from the nose, to each wingtip and see if they are the same length, before altering the root. If you have the wing film off already, you can realign the wing tube supports in the ribs. I would also fit the booms and make sure all is aligned correctly before altering anything, tim

Got it figured out in the (more awake) light of day.
With the tubes in place, the LE tip, and TE differ by less than 1/16"....close enough.
When the left wing is slid on gently, tip touches, TE does not....ditto Right side.
Measured the fuse, and it is almost 3/8" wider at the LE Tip than at the TE.....
Thank goodness for balsa and light weight bondo....

RE: Bob Cat Copy Falcon 120 Jet

So I attempted the wheel well mod last night. Didn't turn out quite how I had planned it. I basically drew the circle on the wing and tried to make the sheeting follow that and it didn't come out quite as round as I had hoped. I'm going to rip it out and make a template for the wheel well so I can build it outside the plane and then just drop it in.

Also I moved the wingtube stop to just after the gear for the CF wingtube. I also got the Quanum Bomb drop system today from HK.

It needs a couple mods. It doesn't seperate very easily, which might be why it broke when a guy on RCG dropped his in flight. Also the foam cone doesn't stay on very well but I think a magnet will fix that and still enable it to leave when the bomb splits. At worst replacement bombs are only $6 and they give you a molded piece so you can drop whatever you want.

I also am planning to disassemble a bomb unit so you guys can see the guts.

I also finished the glassing on the booms and primed them. Still need some final sanding and filling but the jet is coming along. Only thing left to glass is the wings and I hope to get to that this weekend depending on how it goes installing the bomb drop system. I'm guessing it will go between the 2 servos in the wing.

RE: Bob Cat Copy Falcon 120 Jet

first is the set of parts Primed and awaiting sanding and filling. They look pretty good. I go through with a pencil and circle the areas I think need extra love. Then I sand back all the areas and give another light prime and typically its ready for panel lines after that.

Next is the HK Quanum Bombs. I took apart the release mech so you could see how it works. Pretty simple design and works well. Reports are that the bombs can break instead of coming apart when dropped. The tabs are very tight. I first tried drilling them out but didn't like how that worked so cut them off and used some Radio Shack Magnets. Appears to be holding really good and when I test dropped them in the shop from about 4ft on a throw rug on a concrete floor they seperated and didn't break. I glued a small magnet in the front of the foam nose cone as well. I'm going to put some alum on the tip of the bomb (it splits there) for the magnet to hold to but won't keep it from letting the bomb split.

Finally you can see where I want to put the bombs pylon. For the jet I'm going to leave the pylon alone other than repainting it. I plan to drill 4 holes in the pylon and put some blindnuts in the wing. That way it can be removed, but its a very thin pylon so other than maintenance it'll probably stay on the jet.

    Hey Everyone

Im interested in a Falcon 120 jet.. Does anyone know how they fly e.g Do they drop a wing easily  etc...

Do they fly better with Wren44 or 54  ?

Can they fly relatively slow compare boomrangs ?

RE: Bob Cat Copy Falcon 120 Jet

Hi jetbono, the Falcon is a little more slippery than a Boomerang, but can fly very slowly as well. It is very well mannered and mine hasnt dropped a wing, despite me getting myself into some really bad situations. There is a load of youtube footage with falcons flying, you can see on the videos that the plane is really stable. Bear in mind, most of my footage is in really strong and i mean really strong 90 degree crosswinds.
This is my first jet with home made engine and after 150 flights i had a mishap (my fault), plane was repairable, but looked around for something else, but this plane beats the competion hands down, so built another. It would be best with a 54 size engine. I believe someone fitted a 44 and it flew ok. AUW is around 14lbs dry, which is light and the wing has massive wing area, it flys beautifully, also look at the price 179 pounds, its a no brainer, but does require some reglueing of missed joints etc, but what do you expect fror 179 pounds.cheers tim.
