Kevin, looks like your using a lid from a regular Dubro type tank, did you just drill a hole in the cap?

Joe, looks like I got lucky with your diagram, fits perfectly.
Yes---Im using the stopper and parts from a Dubro tank....However, I drilled out the holes in the Dubro stopper caps to accept larger 5/32" brass tubing as I don't like the wimpy small diameter brass tubing that comes with the Dubro fittings...

Here are a couple of pics of the tank installed---Are you guys removing the original tank former to slide the tank further back in the fuselage???---The tank fits perfectly and snug against the sides of the fuselage and the tank is flexable enough so that if it is slid back further it will conform the the fuselage inner contours...

Kevin,

If you go to page 22 in this thread you can see how I did mine. I made a new F7 to support the front of the tank. It's mounted a couple inches rear of the original location and screws into some wood blocks so that I can remove the tank if necessary.

Make sure that the tank sits high enough off the floor to provide clearance for the wing tubes, wing bolts, wires, fuel and air lines. I used a heat gun to re-shape the upper rear of the tank so that it fits far enough rearward to be over the CG.

Thanks Joe!!!---In my pics the fuel tank is over the forward wing tube....Actually sitting on top of it...I'll remove the tank former and move the tank back...Again, thanks..

Another question----There are two pieces of carbon fiber rods about 3/16" in diameter and about 1 1/4" long---Anybody know what these are for???

It is quite possible to just remove all of the rear formers and just pack your tank at the sides and bottom with sponge/foam. I put all my wires and airline in first, then the wing spars then a thinish sheet of foam and then the tank................ I then packed foam down doth sides and at the top. It is very stable and can be removed if necessary... You can see that I have a main tank (Durbo 1500 ml) a second tank (approx 300 ml) and a small header tank with central pickup all plumbed in series.... With this setup I can get about 9 mins with the Wren 54.

Here are a couple of mine finished She has flown 9 times so far but now the weather here in the UK is very poor

These can be fixed into the trailing edge of each wing at the root and then locate into holes that you drill in the fuss............. I left mine out as have many other people as the wing is held by two spars and a fixing bolt each side...... I like many only found them after I had finished the model.... But they seem unecessary

Hey guys,

I have just started my build equipped with a p-70 and was wondering what people are using for hinges?

I was thinking of just using the ca hinges that came with it as it worked fine for me on my baby boomerang.

Do you think ca hinges are adequate knowing this bird will probably be a little faster?

thanks

Many people have used the CA Hinges and have been fine.... Several have also only used then on the flaps, rudders and ailerons but swapped then out for robart on the elevator..... This is what I did and it helps to give quite a lot of movement on the elevator that is required on this plane.

Have fun building her

As far as i could tell on several small jets here we use CA hinges with no problems so far.

Guys---What about this mount for this plane...The mount is from Bruce Tharpe Engineering for the Reaction 54---Looks to me like you could turn the mount upside down from this configuration and you would have the correct amount of down thrust for the Falcon 120...You must specify which turbine that you plan on using...

Kevin,

I don't think that would work. The mounting surface on the R54 is not horizontal, and it has downthrust. It looks like if you turned the mount upside down and attached it to the horizontal surface on the Falcon you would have way too much downthrust. Also there is not much margin of error heightwise. The starter motor needs to be aligned with the recess and hole in the back of the fuse. You could check with BTE and get his mount dimensions to be sure.

It's pretty easy to make one out of aluminum sheet metal. See my posts number 548, 551, and 561 for the mount dimensions. Mugenkidd used my drawing to make one for his T-500 and said it fit perfect (see post #668). If you look through the thread you will see that others have used woodblocks, stantions, and some other easy to fabricate alternatives.

Joe

Joe---I understand what you are saying---After turning the pic upside down using one of my Photoshop programs, the downthrust looks to be excessive...Can you post a pic of your turbine showing the amount of downthrust you used???

Kevin,
I used 4 degrees. See my posts number 548, 551, and 561 for the mount dimensions.

nobody has mentioned it, but how can you use CA hinges on the flaps when it is impossible to CA them from the top? As for now I put Robarts on my flaps, and heavy duty CA hinges on the ailerons and rudder. I also added an extra hinge to each rudder as I didn't fell that two was satisfactory.... now I'm scratching my head as to what I want to use on my elevator?

The Reaction mount is flat, the kit comes with a wedge to set the thrust.

I used Dubro hinges and hinged the flaps toward the bottom of the flaps to lower the hinge line---I can get almost 90 degrees of throw by using these hinges. (Of course I won't use 90 degrees!!!)

This is good to know as we can always add washers to the forward turbine mounting screws to give us the required down thrust---The Reaction 54 mount will be a good alternative for those of us that are too lazy or unable to fabricate their own aluminum mount...

Yeah, I thought about that after I hinged mine, I can probally get a little over 40 degrees though, but I wish I would have done mine like yours, would have been nice to at least expirement with.

I don't know why you al bother with these engines mounts as the two blocks of wood that come with the kit are fine!
But if you have got loads of money and time to spend on it then that's fine I suppose!
Im only saying this in case those of you out there think that you have to make/but these brackets are unaware that the supplied mounts are not good enough.

I may have a Freind that would be able to fab some engine mounts like jetflyers. Let me check on this and see if he can do it and what it might cost. The wood ones are likely just fine but I have found even on the small bobcat 50 that the blocks are generally not uniform. If your intrested in an engine mount shoot me a pm. If there is enough interest, i might be able to lite a fire under his backside and get some built. This is just a test to see if there is enough interest. Make the PM subject line: Falcon 120 engine mount. Thanks i will see what I can come up with. I will likely be starting on my after the Holidaze. lol cheers.

BigTop---Yes, the supplied mounts will work fine if using two stroke prop engine on this model---But you are mistaken if you think that the supplied mounts will work with a turbine...They are not high enough, hence the need for a new mount for turbine use...

The wood blocks in my bobcat 50 were useless once the oil got to them had to make aluminum mount. [&:]

I have a Falcon 120 comming in soon.

And Joeflyer as a fellow clubmember.

Turbine charging mine will be easy!

Bob,

Looks like we'll have a few Falcons at the field come spring. Besides you and me, Jim S. also has one. I managed to get 3 flights on mine before the weather turned to crap.
